Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Execution
- Execute production as per approved drawings and WPS.
- Coordinate plate cutting, rolling, fit-up, welding, NDT, hydrotest.
- Ensure target completion as per production schedule.
- Manpower allocation (fitters, welders, operators).
Code & Quality Compliance
- Ensure fabrication as per:
- ASME Section VIII
- IBR regulations
- IS codes
- Monitor welding parameters.
- Coordinate with QA/QC for:
- Fit-up inspection
- Radiography (RT)
- UT, PT, MT
- Hydro testing
Shop Floor Management
- Handling heavy plates (SA516 Gr.70, SS, Alloy steel).
- Supervise:
- Rolling machines
- Dished end forming presses
- Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
- FCAW / SMAW welding
- Monitor productivity and rejection control.
Coordination
- With Design Department (drawing clarifications)
- With QC / Third Party Inspection
- With Purchase & Stores (material availability)
- With Maintenance for machine breakdowns
Safety & Documentation
- Ensure safe lifting (EOT crane handling)
- Maintain production reports
- WPS/PQR traceability
- Welder qualification records
Required Technical Knowledge
- Reading fabrication drawings
- Welding symbols & joint details
- Heat treatment (PWHT)
- Dished end forming process
- Rolling calculations
- Hydrotest pressure calculation
- NDT basics
- Material identification & MTC verification
Qualification
- Diploma / B.E. Mechanical
- 5–15 years experience in heavy fabrication
- Experience in pressure vessel or boiler manufacturing preferred
