Job Summary
The Consultant Radiologist is responsible for performing, interpreting and reporting diagnostic imaging studies accurately and promptly. The radiologist will work closely with consultants, emergency physicians, surgeons and critical-care teams to support clinical diagnosis, treatment planning and patient management.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostic Reporting
- Interpret and report imaging investigations performed at the hospital.
- Provide accurate and timely reports for routine, emergency and inpatient investigations.
- Review relevant clinical history and previous imaging before issuing reports.
- Immediately communicate critical or unexpected findings to the treating doctor.
- Provide provisional reports in emergency situations when required.
- Maintain appropriate turnaround time for all radiology reports.
- Participate in clinical discussions and provide radiological opinions to treating consultants.
Ultrasound and Imaging Procedures
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to clinical indications.
- Conduct Doppler studies and other available imaging procedures within the radiologist’s scope of practice.
- Perform image-guided diagnostic or therapeutic procedures where facilities, training and hospital privileges permit.
- Ensure that appropriate patient consent is obtained before invasive or contrast-based procedures.
Patient Safety
- Verify patient identity, clinical indication and relevant medical history before imaging.
- Assess patients for allergies, renal impairment, pregnancy and other contraindications before contrast administration.
- Follow radiation-safety principles and minimise unnecessary radiation exposure.
- Ensure emergency drugs and resuscitation equipment are available during contrast procedures.
- Promptly identify and manage contrast reactions in coordination with the emergency and anaesthesia teams.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
Quality and Documentation
- Ensure reports are clear, complete, clinically relevant and properly documented.
- Correct or amend reports promptly when required and document all changes.
- Maintain records of imaging studies, reports, contrast usage and procedures.
- Participate in departmental audits, peer reviews and quality-improvement activities.
- Assist in establishing imaging protocols and reporting standards.
- Support compliance with NABH, AERB, PCPNDT and other applicable statutory requirements.
- Cooperate with internal and external audits.
Departmental Coordination
- Coordinate with radiographers, technicians, nurses, emergency staff and treating consultants.
- Guide technicians regarding appropriate imaging protocols and positioning.
- Support emergency, ICU, trauma, surgical and inpatient imaging requirements.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and clinical case discussions when required.
- Assist hospital management in improving radiology workflow, reporting efficiency and patient satisfaction.
- Report equipment-related issues promptly to the biomedical or maintenance department.
Ethical and Regulatory Responsibilities
- Follow all applicable medical, ethical and legal standards.
- Maintain valid medical registration and required professional certifications.
- Strictly comply with PCPNDT regulations for ultrasound services.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records and imaging data.
- Avoid unnecessary investigations and provide evidence-based radiological recommendations.
- Display and maintain all mandatory licences and documentation applicable to the department.
Qualification Requirements
- MBBS from a recognised medical institution.
- MD/DNB/Diploma in Radio-Diagnosis or Radiology from a recognised institution.
- Valid registration with the National Medical Commission or State Medical Council.
- Appropriate training and registration required for performing ultrasound examinations.
- Knowledge of PCPNDT, AERB and NABH requirements.
- Relevant clinical experience in a hospital or diagnostic centre is preferred.

Working Conditions
- Duty timings will be determined according to the hospital’s requirements.
- The radiologist may be required to provide emergency or on-call reporting support.
- Attendance during scheduled OPD, inpatient and emergency-service hours is mandatory.
- Professional attire, punctuality and compliance with hospital policies are expected.
Declaration
The Consultant Radiologist shall perform all assigned duties responsibly, maintain high professional and ethical standards and contribute to the delivery of safe, accurate and patient-centred diagnostic services at Suncoast Hospital.
Pay: ₹33,064.93 - ₹161,128.20 per month
