Job Description: Production Chemist – Insulating Varnish
Company: Bawa Polymers
Department: Production
Reports To: Production Manager / Plant Head
Shift: Rotational (Day & Night), changing weekly
Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Production Chemist to manage day-to-day manufacturing of insulating varnish. The role involves batch processing, reactor operation, quality checks, and ensuring safe, efficient production on a rotating day/night shift schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor the reactor (charging raw materials, controlling temperature, pressure, and reaction time as per SOP/batch card)
- Prepare and process insulating varnish batches (e.g., polyester/epoxy/alkyd-based varnish) as per formulation
- Monitor reaction parameters — viscosity, acid value, solid content, gel time — and adjust process conditions accordingly
- Carry out in-process quality checks and coordinate with QC/QA for batch approval
- Maintain accurate production, batch, and reactor log records
- Ensure raw material handling, dosing, and mixing is done as per formulation and safety norms
- Handle solvent addition, cooling, thinning, and filtration operations
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols while handling flammable solvents and resins (fire safety, PPE usage, ventilation)
- Coordinate handover notes between shifts to maintain production continuity
- Troubleshoot minor process/reactor issues and escalate major faults to maintenance/engineering
- Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in the production area
- Assist in achieving daily/monthly production targets with minimal wastage
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of varnish/resin manufacturing process.
- Practical experience in reactor operation (batch reactor charging, heating/cooling cycles, temperature & pressure control)
- Understanding of basic chemical process parameters — viscosity, acid value, gel time, solid content
- Awareness of safety procedures for handling solvents, resins, and flammable materials
- Ability to read and follow batch manufacturing records (BMR) and SOPs
- Basic troubleshooting ability for process deviations
Qualification & Experience
- B.Sc/M.Sc in Chemistry, or Diploma/B.Tech in Chemical Engineering / Polymer Technology
- 1–5 years of experience in resin/varnish/paint/polymer manufacturing (freshers with strong technical knowledge may also be considered)
Work Conditions
- Willing to work in rotating day and night shifts (weekly rotation)
- Willing to work in a chemical plant environment, wearing PPE as required
- Physically fit to handle reactor operations and plant floor work
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
