We are seeking a Industrial Design Engineer to lead product design and industrial engineering efforts for next-generation consumer products. This is a hands-on individual contributor (IC) role focused on translating product concepts into practical, manufacturable, and market-ready designs.
The ideal candidate combines strong visual design sense with practical mechanical engineering expertise and is capable of driving designs from concept through production.
Key Responsibilities
Industrial Design & Product Development
- Lead industrial design and product engineering for next-generation products.
- Design and improve product casings, external housings, coverings, and overall product layouts.
- Balance aesthetics, functionality, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability in all designs.
Product Engineering & Integration
- Collaborate with electrical and electronics teams to integrate PCBs and other components into practical product assemblies.
- Optimize product architecture for usability, serviceability, and assembly efficiency.
- Ensure high-quality fit, finish, and overall product presentation.
Prototyping & Manufacturing
- Support prototype development, design iterations, pilot builds, and production transfer.
- Work closely with tooling vendors, suppliers, and factory teams to ensure design feasibility for mass production.
- Apply strong DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles.
Execution & Capability Building
- Improve internal product design standards and industrial execution quality.
- Contribute to building scalable in-house product design capability in India.
- Support multiple overlapping development programs with strong technical ownership.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in industrial design, product engineering, or mechanical product development.
Technical Skills
- Strong CAD and product layout capability (SolidWorks).
- Hands-on experience with product enclosures, plastic parts, sheet metal, and manufacturing processes.
- Solid understanding of DFM, DFA, prototyping, and production release.
- Experience designing electro-mechanical or appliance-type products.
Behavioral & Functional Skills
- Ability to translate concepts into practical, manufacturable products.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills across engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing teams.
- Hands-on, execution-oriented mindset (not limited to design office work).
- Ability to work independently and drive outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Background in consumer appliances or durable electro-mechanical products.
- Strong visual design judgment combined with engineering discipline.
- Experience working with global teams and international product standards.
