Job Summary
The R&D Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and improving power and distribution transformers. The role focuses on product innovation, performance optimization, cost reduction, and ensuring compliance with national and international standards. The engineer collaborates with design, production, quality, procurement, and testing teams to develop reliable and efficient transformer solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop new transformer products, including power, distribution, and special-purpose transformers.
- Conduct research on new materials, insulation systems, cooling methods, and manufacturing technologies.
- Prepare electrical and mechanical designs, calculations, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Perform design validation through simulations, prototype development, and laboratory testing.
- Analyze test results and recommend design improvements.
- Optimize transformer performance, efficiency, thermal characteristics, and short-circuit withstand capability.
- Support product cost reduction and value engineering initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as IEC, IS, IEEE, ANSI, and customer specifications.
- Investigate product failures and implement corrective and preventive design improvements.
- Coordinate with production teams during prototype manufacturing and product validation.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and design records.
- Stay updated on emerging transformer technologies, materials, and industry trends.
- Assist in customer technical discussions and provide engineering support when required.
- Participate in intellectual property development, patents, and innovation initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in EEE /ECE.
- Master's Degree (M.E./M.Tech) in Power Systems, High Voltage Engineering, or Electrical Machines is preferred.
- 2–8 years of experience in transformer design or R&D (experience requirement may vary based on level).
- Fresh graduates with strong academic performance and relevant project work may also be considered for junior positions.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of transformer design principles.
- Knowledge of magnetic circuit design, insulation coordination, and thermal analysis.
- Familiarity with transformer testing procedures and interpretation of test results.
- Experience with design software such as AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of electromagnetic analysis software (ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL, Flux, etc.) is preferred.
- Understanding of IEC, IS, IEEE, ANSI, and related transformer standards.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and quality systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering documentation
