ROLE OVERVIEW
The Track & Yard Operations Expert will provide domain expertise in railway track operations, yard planning, and train movement management to support the Station Decongestion and Maintenance Facility Relocation Study for Delhi Area. The role requires deep knowledge of Indian Railways operational protocols, station yard dynamics, and train termination/origination flows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess existing track utilisation, yard occupancy patterns, and train movement flows at Delhi-area terminals (NDLS, HNZ, DLI, NZM, etc.)
- Analyse train origination/termination operations and identify congestion bottlenecks in the Delhi division
- Review existing timetabling, stabling arrangements, and signal constraints impacting yard efficiency
- Support GIS-based mapping of infrastructure and operational data related to track and yard systems
- Provide technical inputs for comparative analysis of connectivity corridors and infrastructure interventions
- Recommend phased train shifting strategies to decongest passenger terminals with minimal freight impact
- Participate in field surveys and verification of railway infrastructure across Delhi-area stations and yards
- Contribute to preparation of technical assessments, conceptual layouts, and final consultancy reports
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- B.E./B.Tech in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Retired or deputed railway officer from JE/SSE/AEN/AOM cadre preferred
- Minimum 5 years direct experience in railway track operations, yard planning, or train movement management on Indian Railways Open Line or Metro Rail
- Direct working knowledge of train termination/origination flows at major stations; Delhi area experience preferred
- Familiarity with IR General and Subsidiary Rules, Working Time Tables, and Station Working Rules
- Proficiency in preparing operational reports and contributing to multi-disciplinary study teams
