- Welding and fabrication: Joining metal components and fabricating structures using MIG welding techniques, sometimes also performing other welding types like Stick, TIG, or Arc welding.
- Blueprint interpretation: Reading and understanding engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan and execute welding operations correctly.
- Equipment operation: Setting up and operating welding machines and related equipment, including selecting the appropriate settings for different materials and thicknesses.
- Material preparation: Preparing surfaces to be welded, which may include cutting, grinding, and cleaning materials.
- Quality control: Inspecting and testing welds to ensure they meet quality standards, strength requirements, and technical specifications.
- Safety adherence: Following all safety guidelines and wearing the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent injury, as welding involves risks like electrical shock, burns, and respiratory hazards.
- Equipment maintenance: Performing routine maintenance on welding equipment to keep it in good working order.
- Team collaboration: Working with other workers, such as fabricators, fitters, and supervisors, to ensure projects are completed on time and to specifications.
