Role Overview:
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Camera with strong expertise in Android camera software development to design, develop, and optimize high-performance camera solutions for mobile platforms. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in camera software architecture, Linux kernel, camera drivers, and image processing, along with the ability to solve complex technical challenges and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain Android Camera software stack, including Camera HAL, Linux device drivers, and camera framework components.
Develop and optimize camera features such as HDR, Night Mode, Portrait Mode, Dual/Multi Camera, Video Recording, and Image Processing.
Work on camera sensor integration, camera bring-up, debugging, and performance optimization.
Collaborate with Kernel, ISP, Framework, Application, and Hardware teams to deliver high-quality camera solutions.
Perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot complex camera issues, and optimize system performance, memory, and power consumption.
Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
Preferred Skills:
Strong programming skills in C/C++ with experience in Embedded Linux and Android.
Hands-on experience with Android Camera HAL (HAL3), Camera Framework, Linux Kernel, Device Drivers, Camera Drivers, Camera Bring-up, Camera Sensor Integration, ISP/Image Processing, Camera Pipeline, V4L2, and Media Controller Framework.
Strong debugging experience using tools such as adb, logcat, dmesg, perf, gdb, along with familiarity with Git/Gerrit and Android build systems.
Experience working on commercial smartphone camera solutions and performance optimization.
Good to Have:
Experience with Qualcomm Snapdragon/CamX, HIDL/AIDL, libcamera, GStreamer, MIPI CSI, OIS, EEPROM, Actuator, Flash/Torch Integration, Camera Tuning, and AI-powered camera features.
Experience working with companies such as Qualcomm, Samsung Research, MediaTek, Sony, NVIDIA, Intel, Google, Apple, Tata Elxsi, LTTS, eInfochips, HCL ERS, Cyient, VVDN, or Sasken.
