We are seeking motivated Principal Structural Engineer to join our global team delivering complex projects worldwide. Career trajectory of candidates selected to this position would be oriented towards leadership roles in project execution and/or functioning as a ‘knowledge leader’ in the CSA department leading to various leadership positions in the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performing assigned project execution activities with a strict focus on quality, budget, and schedule KPIs.
- Preparing comprehensive project execution plans, RACI matrices, QC review matrices, and work-hour estimations.
- Managing project controls, including scheduling, progress monitoring, change management, risk mitigation, resource planning, and cost estimating.
- Interpreting project scope and contractual obligations to ensure full compliance across deliverables.
- Preparing standard discipline deliverables, including engineering calculations, 3D models, and detailed drawings.
- Reviewing design inputs thoroughly for adequacy, accuracy, and completeness.
- Reviewing geotechnical reports and applying data for foundation design and civil work activities.
- Preparing critical design deliverables, including pipe racks, technological structures, and equipment foundations.
- Assisting in the design of complex deliverables, including dynamic foundations and advanced technological structures.
- Conducting detailed reviews of steel fabrication drawings.
- Reviewing vendor documents for technical compliance and alignment.
- Resolving site queries and Requests for Information (RFIs) promptly to support construction progress.
- Executing brownfield project activities, including tie-in design, field verification, laser scan data integration, and alignment with as-built documentation
- Participating in interdisciplinary team reviews of deliverables prepared by other engineering groups.
- Representing the BMI CSA department in formal design reviews, including 3D model and constructability reviews.
- Providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to less experienced personnel.
- Contributing actively to knowledge sharing, standards development, work process optimization, automation, innovation, Value Management Practices (VMP), and departmental initiatives.
- Co-authoring technical papers for publication in professional journals.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a Master's degree in Structural Engineering from a reputable institution with 10 to 15 years experience in OGC project engineering.
- Extensive expertise in CSA work processes, standard deliverables, and industry-best engineering practices
- Solid working knowledge of international industry codes and regulations, such as ACI, ASCE, AISC, and PIP
- Advanced proficiency in technical writing and engineering documentation
- Extensive knowledge of the analysis and design of structural systems, including structural steel and concrete design
- Thorough understanding of standard materials, fabrication methods, and construction practices related to CSA discipline work
- Familiarity with the fundamentals of civil design, including site layout, site drainage, and grading design
- Ability to interpret laser scans for existing plant environments
- Practical experience in conducting field site surveys to gather engineering inputs
- Advanced proficiency in RISA, STAAD, and RAM software; knowledge of other industry software is an added advantage
- Extensive understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and impacts of other engineering disciplines on complex projects
- Familiarity with the procurement contract process, including bidding and techno-commercial evaluations
- Ability to provide leadership to a medium-sized working group of approximately fifteen people
- Familiarity with the construction contract process, including competitive bidding and contract evaluation workflows
- Prior experience as a Lead Engineer on medium-sized projects preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills, including effective listening, empathy, and an appropriate level of assertiveness
- Commitment to regular, appropriate, and concise communication across teams
- Strong task delegation and strategic decision-making skills
