About the Role:
The Assistant Editor is responsible for managing manuscripts throughout the editorial lifecycle, from submission to final decision. As an Assistant Editor, you will be part of a global editorial ecosystem, working as a subject matter expert to support the peer review process and editorial decision-making.
This role serves as a key liaison between authors, reviewers, and internal editorial teams, ensuring a fair, efficient, and high-quality peer review process. The Assistant Editor applies scientific expertise and editorial judgment to support the integrity, impact, and growth of Wiley's journal portfolio.
This role is ideal for researchers looking to transition into scientific publishing while leveraging their subject expertise in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Manage manuscript screening and peer review activities within Health Sciences, Public Health, Dentistry, and related subject areas.
- Evaluate submissions for journal scope, quality, and suitability, and make editorial decisions with clear rationale.
- Identify, select, and invite appropriate reviewers.
- Assess reviewer reports and make decisions (accept, reject, revise, or transfer).
- Evaluate revised manuscripts and determine next steps or final decisions.
- Identify suitable journals for manuscript transfer within the portfolio when required.
- Raise integrity concerns identified during manuscript screening through appropriate channels.
- Participate in cross-functional projects and contribute to process improvements.
- Support training initiatives and collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
What We Are Looking For
- PhD or equivalent advanced degree in Health Sciences, Public Health, Dentistry, or a closely related field.
- 3–5 years of research experience in Health Sciences, Public Health, Dentistry, or a related scientific discipline.
- 1–2 years of experience in scholarly publishing, preferably in an editorial, peer review, or manuscript management role.
- Strong understanding of the peer review and academic publishing process.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage priorities effectively.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across global teams.
- Experience as a reviewer, editor, or editorial board member is preferred.
- Understanding of editorial policies, scholarly publishing practices, and Open Access publishing models is desirable
