Interior Designer — Rao Space - Home Interior
Location: Doddakallasandra, South Bangalore
Job type: Full-time
Why this role exists
Rao Space designs functional, family-first interiors for Bangalore apartments and villas. We focus on space planning, storage-first solutions, and designs that simplify daily routines — because every room should tell a story and make life easier. This role hires a designer who thinks beyond finishes: planning for manufacture, installation, and real family use.
Core responsibilities
· Lead client consultations to understand lifestyle, routines, and real constraints (fixed tiles, builder-provided countertops, budget).
· Create space-first layouts and detailed floor plans that optimise circulation, storage, and appliance/kitchen workflows for 2/3 BHK apartments and villas.
· Develop clear concept presentations: mood boards, material palettes, and rationale that link to the client’s daily routines.
· Produce accurate technical drawings suitable for production and CNC execution.
· Create 3D models and photorealistic renders to help clients visualise spatial changes (SketchUp + V-Ray or Enscape workflow).
· Prepare BOMs, cost estimates, and budgets—track changes and maintain cost discipline.
· Coordinate with manufacturing, site teams, contractors and project managers to ensure designs are built to spec.
· Supervise installations, perform snagging, and ensure final handover meets design intent and client satisfaction.
· Recommend durable materials and finishes that fit Bangalore apartment realities (laminates, PU/PU-lacquer, hardware, quartz, lighting).
· Incorporate sustainable choices where practical and advise clients on maintenance-friendly options.
· Maintain a portfolio of completed projects and document 2–3 case studies per year demonstrating space savings and functional outcomes.
Must-have skills & experience
· Degree in Interior Design / Architecture.
· 4+ years experience in residential interiors — preferably modular / built-to-measure projects for apartments (2/3 BHK).
· Strong proficiency in: AutoCAD (documentation), SketchUp (3D modelling), Enscape or V-Ray (rendering).
· Hands-on experience producing manufacturing-ready drawings and BOMs.
· Practical understanding of site execution and on-site problem solving.
· Excellent client communication and presentation skills.
· Strong space-planning mindset: storage solutions, flow, ergonomics, and appliance ergonomics.
· Portfolio with at least 3 completed residential projects showing plans, 3D visuals, and before/after outcomes.
Nice-to-have
· Experience with interior production workflows (factory coordination, QC).
· Familiarity with cost-estimating tools and Excel-based project tracking.
· Knowledge of local Bangalore building practices and typical builder handover constraints.
· Experience with Vastu-sensitive planning (if applicable to client requirements).
What we offer
· Work on practical, high-impact home interiors with a process-driven team.
· Exposure to design → manufacture → install lifecycle and learning opportunity to convert concept into production.
· Competitive salary and performance incentives (negotiable based on experience).
· A chance to build a portfolio focused on functional, family-centred design.
How to apply
Send your CV and a focused portfolio (PDF, max 10 MB) with 3 case studies that include: the problem, your plan (floor plan + storage strategy), visuals (renders/photos), and outcomes (client feedback / space saved / timeline). Email: [email protected] (or post link to your portfolio). Shortlisted candidates will be asked to present one project and walk us through your decisions.
