Summary:
A Restaurant Captain manages front-of-house operations to maximize guest satisfaction, supervise and train service staff, and coordinate table assignments and reservations. They act as the primary contact for guests and support efficient, high-quality food and beverage service throughout a shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and welcome guests promptly and with warmth.
- Assist guests with reservations and seating, ensuring efficient service.
- Oversee waitstaff, ensuring standards of service are met and team members are well-informed about menu and specials.
- Resolve customer complaints and anticipate guest needs with professionalism and tact.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining area and ensure hygiene standards.
- Communicate effectively with the kitchen about menu items, dietary needs, and service timing.
- Supervise the serving of food and beverage, and manage payment processes through point-of-sale systems.
- Handle inventory checks, closing duties, and ensure operating equipment and supplies are properly managed.
- Coach and develop junior staff, ensuring completion of daily responsibilities and shift-end tasks.
- Ensure compliance with brand standards and operating procedures, contributing to an overall positive atmosphere and service culture.
Employer Requirements:
- Good command of written and spoken English; professional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Pleasing personality with a guest-oriented approach and strong service skills.
- Diploma or degree in hotel management or a related field; familiarity with POS systems, MS Office, and property management software.
- 2-3 years’ experience in Food & Beverage with at least one year as a Captain or equivalent.
- Strong leadership, team collaboration, problem-solving, and training capabilities.
- Ability to handle operational pressures, multitask, and oversee large volumes of guests or events.
- Well-groomed, energetic, and physically capable of standing for long periods and moving between sections.
