Job Purpose
To prepare accurate CNC laser cutting programs, optimize material utilization, ensure error-free production, and support manufacturing operations by converting engineering drawings into machine-ready programs while maintaining quality, productivity, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programming
- Prepare CNC laser cutting programs from engineering drawings using CAD/CAM software.
- Generate NC code for laser cutting machines.
- Optimize nesting for maximum material utilization and minimum scrap.
- Verify programs before releasing them to production.
- Modify programs based on production requirements.
2. Drawing Interpretation
- Read and understand 2D drawings and 3D models.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
- Coordinate with the Design Department for any drawing discrepancies.
3. Production Support
- Provide technical support to laser machine operators.
- Troubleshoot programming-related issues.
- Improve cutting quality and cycle time.
- Maintain programming standards and revision control.
4. Material Optimization
- Prepare nesting layouts to maximize sheet utilization.
- Reduce scrap percentage through efficient nesting.
- Select suitable cutting parameters according to material type and thickness.
5. Machine Coordination
- Coordinate with production planning for daily job schedules.
- Ensure machine programs are available before production starts.
- Support machine setup during new product development.
6. Quality Control
- Ensure all programs meet drawing specifications.
- Reduce programming errors and rework.
- Support first-piece inspection.
- Maintain dimensional accuracy.
7. Documentation
- Maintain program library and backups.
- Record revision history.
- Maintain nesting reports and material consumption records.
- Update production records as required.
8. Safety & Compliance
- Follow company safety policies.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Maintain 5S in the programming area.
- Follow ISO and company procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering.
- Certification in CAD/CAM (preferred).
Experience
- 3–8 years in CNC Laser Programming.
- Experience in sheet metal or storage rack manufacturing preferred.
- Hands-on experience with CNC fiber laser machines.
