Position Overview
The Civil Lab Technician will play a vital role in ensuring the quality and reliability of construction materials used in railway infrastructure projects. This position involves conducting on-site and laboratory testing of materials for roads, bridges, and culverts, providing accurate data to engineers and project managers for critical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Material testing: Perform tests on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and steel used in railway roads, bridges, and culverts.
- Soil analysis: Assess compaction, moisture content, and bearing capacity for embankments and bridge foundations.
- Concrete testing: Conduct slump tests, cube tests, and compressive strength evaluations for bridge decks, culvert slabs, and road pavements.
- Quality assurance: Ensure materials meet Indian Railway standards, project specifications, and regulatory codes.
- Report preparation: Document and present test results to engineers, site supervisors, and project managers.
- Safety compliance: Follow strict lab and site safety protocols in high-risk bridge and culvert environments.
Skills & Competencies
- Technical knowledge: Expertise in construction materials testing specific to railway infrastructure.
- Attention to detail: Precision in measurements and reporting for safety-critical structures.
- Lab equipment handling: Skilled in using compression machines, sieves, moisture meters, rebound hammers, and other testing devices.
- Communication skills: Effective coordination with engineers, site supervisors, and railway project managers.
- Adaptability: Ability to work independently under challenging site conditions across bridges, culverts, and road alignments.
Education & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering or Material Science.
- Certification or specialized training in Construction Material Testing for railway projects preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in civil lab testing, ideally in road, bridge, or culvert construction.
Work Environment
- Primarily site-based with regular visits to the laboratory.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, including bridge sites, culvert foundations, and railway road alignments.
- Requires adherence to strict safety and quality standards.
