Supply Chain – Head
Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India
Department: Supply Chain management
Reporting To: Managing Director/ COO / Plant Head
Industry: Aerospace, Defence , Automobile and Precision Manufacturing
Role purpose
To independently lead and strengthen AMD’s end-to-end supply chain function, ensuring timely availability of quality material, disciplined vendor management, accurate planning, ERP control, cost optimization, and seamless support to manufacturing and customer commitments in a high-precision aerospace and advanced engineering environment.
Key responsibilities
- Build and execute supply chain strategy aligned with business growth, production plans, and customer delivery commitments.
- New vendor development, sourcing strategy, and long-term supplier relationship management.
- Manage all procurement activities for raw material, bought-outs, consumables, special processes, and outsourced services.
- Drive material planning, shortage closure, and deadline management to protect production schedules and delivery commitments.
- Establish strong systems for inventory control, min-max planning, slow-moving and non-moving stock reduction, and working capital optimization.
- Ensure ERP accuracy across purchase requisitions, POs, GRNs, consumption, stock movement, and open order tracking.
- Monitor supplier performance on quality, delivery, responsiveness, cost, and compliance; implement scorecards and corrective actions.
- Coordinate with production, quality, engineering, and finance to resolve material issues quickly and prevent line stoppages.
- Ensure readiness for internal/external audits, including traceability, documentation, approved vendor status, and process compliance consistent with aerospace-quality expectations.
- Lead logistics and dispatch planning to ensure on-time and damage-free delivery.
- Improve productivity through process standardization, automation, cycle-time reduction, and supplier collaboration.
- Negotiate commercial terms, payment terms, lead times, and service levels while protecting business continuity.
- Build a high-performing team and independentlymanage the department with clear KPIs, reviews, and accountability.
- Manage customer-facing supply chain coordination, including delivery commitments, order status updates, escalation handling, and proactive communication on any risks affecting OTIF performance.
KPI ownership
The role should be measured on:
- OTIF delivery performance.
- Material availability and shortage closure time.
- Inventory turns and stock accuracy.
- Vendor on-time delivery and quality acceptance rate.
- Purchase price variance / sourcing savings.
- ERP data accuracy and transaction timeliness.
- Audit closure rate and non-conformance reduction.
- Dispatch accuracy and logistics cost control.
- Productivity improvement in planning/procurement processes.
Desired profile
- 10-12 years of experience in supply chain / procurement / planning, preferably in aerospace, defence, precision engineering, industrial manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of vendor management, sourcing, inventory control, ERP, logistics, and audit systems.
- Proven ability to independently run a supply chain department.
- Hands-on, data-driven, and highly accountable.
- Strong negotiation, coordination, and leadership skills.
- Experience in AS9100D / ISO-driven environments is strongly preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering / supply chain / Operations / Materials Management / Commerce/ Mechanical Engineering.
- MBA or PG in Supply Chain / Operations is preferred.
