VMC Operator – Professional Description
A VMC Operator is responsible for operating Vertical Machining Center (VMC) machines to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and production specifications. The role requires technical knowledge of CNC machining processes, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining quality and safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate Vertical Machining Center (VMC) machines to manufacture parts as per approved drawings and job specifications
- Load raw materials and ensure proper clamping and alignment before machining
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructions
- Perform tool offsets and minor program edits as required
- Monitor machining operations to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality
- Conduct in-process inspections using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and dial indicators
- Identify and report machine malfunctions, tool wear, or quality issues
- Maintain production records and documentation accurately
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience operating VMC or CNC milling machines
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and tolerances
- Knowledge of machining parameters, tooling, and materials
- Familiarity with measuring and inspection equipment
- Basic understanding of CNC programming is an advantage
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
