A PPC (Production Planning and Control) Manager in the garment industry orchestrates the entire manufacturing process from order receipt to final dispatch. They are responsible for optimizing production capacity, managing the Time & Action (T&A) calendar, and ensuring raw materials are available to meet strict on-time delivery deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Order & Capacity Planning
- Capacity Analysis: Evaluate factory capabilities and line efficiencies to determine how many orders can be accepted without overbooking.
- Line Loading & Planning: Strategically allocate production lines based on garment complexity, style, and machine availability.
- Target Setting: Establish daily and hourly production quotas for cutting, sewing, washing, and finishing departments to maximize efficiency.
2. Material Requirement Planning (MRP)
- Resource Coordination: Work with sourcing and procurement teams to calculate material lead times and coordinate the timely arrival of fabrics, trims, and accessories.
- BOM Management: Analyze the Bill of Materials (BOM) to prevent raw material shortages or excess inventory.
3. Execution & Control
- T&A Monitoring: Develop and closely monitor the Time and Action Calendar (T&A) to track pre-production approvals, sampling, cutting, and packaging.
- Work-In-Progress (WIP) Tracking: Monitor WIP and identify bottlenecks in real-time, swiftly adjusting schedules to keep production lines running smoothly.
4. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Bridge the gap between various departments, including merchandising, design, cutting, stitching, quality assurance, and commercial teams, ensuring everyone adheres to the same production schedule.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- OTD (On-Time Delivery): Percentage of orders shipped by the committed date.
- Line Efficiency & SMV (Standard Minute Value): Optimizing the time it takes to produce a single garment against the factory's baseline.
- Plan vs. Actual (PVA) Gap: Minimizing the variance between planned production targets and actual output.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 10 to 15+ years in the apparel manufacturing or garment export sector.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of garment construction, different fabric types (Denim), and industrial engineering principles.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems (like SAP or Oracle), advanced Microsoft Excel, and specialized apparel production software.
