location : Hubli, Karnataka.
Position Summary
The Precision Manufacturing Unit Manager will lead end-to-end precision manufacturing operations, driving new product industrialization, production excellence, quality, delivery, and continuous improvement. The role is responsible for transforming product designs into scalable manufacturing, ensuring zero-defect production, optimizing productivity, and coordinating across Design, Quality, Procurement, Production, Assembly, and Supply Chain to successfully launch and manufacture defence products.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Product Industrialization & New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Lead product industrialization from prototype to batch production.
- Develop manufacturing processes, SOPs, control plans, and process validations.
- Coordinate with R&D to ensure manufacturability and faster product launches.
2. Precision Manufacturing
- Manage CNC machining, Wire EDM, grinding, honing, heat treatment, surface finishing, and other precision manufacturing processes.
- Achieve micron-level tolerances through optimized machining, tooling, fixturing, calibration, and preventive maintenance.
- Improve productivity, machine utilization, OEE, and reduce cycle time and rejection.
3. Quality & Process Excellence
- Implement zero-defect manufacturing through PFMEA, SPC, PPAP, Control Plans, RCA, CAPA, and First Article Inspection.
- Ensure complete product traceability, process control, and continuous reduction of defects and rework.
4. Assembly, Testing & Product Validation
- Establish standardized assembly and testing processes.
- Ensure assembly repeatability, functional validation, and production readiness before dispatch.
5. Production Planning & Supply Chain
- Plan and execute production schedules balancing development and regular manufacturing.
- Coordinate materials, tooling, manpower, inventory, suppliers, and production resources to meet delivery commitments.
6. Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Lead Production, Quality, CNC, Assembly, and Manufacturing Engineering teams.
- Build a high-performance culture through training, KPI monitoring, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, automation, and cost reduction initiatives.
7. Defence Manufacturing Compliance
- Ensure compliance with defence manufacturing standards, documentation, configuration control, audits, and secure handling of controlled products and information.
8. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Design, Quality, Procurement, Stores, Maintenance, Assembly, Testing, and Dispatch to resolve manufacturing challenges and improve manufacturability.
9. KPI & Operational Performance
Drive continuous improvement in:
- Production output and on-time delivery
- OEE and machine utilization
- First Pass Yield (FPY)
- Rejection and rework reduction
- Cost per component and productivity
- Inventory accuracy and development lead time
10. New Product Launch
Lead manufacturing readiness and successful production ramp-up for existing and future defence products, including existing calibre pistols, medium range launchers, fire control units(FCS), and other precision defence systems, through process development, tooling, supplier qualification, pilot production, validation, operator training, and production stabilization.
