Role overview
The E-commerce Operations & Marketplace Executive will manage the day-to-day running of the business across Amazon.in, Flipkart, Meesho and future direct-to-consumer channels. Marketplace operations are the main priority. The role also provides practical support with product content, basic design, inventory, packing and dispatch, reporting, administration and accounts coordination.
Role scope: This is one combined startup role, the employee is expected to be hands-on and organised, while advanced graphic design and specialist performance marketing may remain with external professionals.
Key responsibilities
Marketplace and catalogue management
- Create, update and optimise product listings, titles, bullet points, descriptions, attributes, search terms, images, variations and A+ content. Maintain accurate SKU, pricing, HSN/tax, country-of-origin, importer, warranty and product information so listings match approved packaging and documents. Manage daily operations on Amazon Seller Central, Flipkart Seller Hub and Meesho Supplier Panel, including catalogue tickets and promotional updates. Monitor account-health notifications, suppressed listings, authenticity or policy claims and marketplace cases; prepare factual responses and corrective actions. Keep marketplace credentials, user permissions, case records and standard operating procedures organised and secure.
Orders, inventory, packing and fulfilment
- Process orders and coordinate seller-fulfilled, marketplace-fulfilled and third-party logistics workflows within cut-off times. Prepare and track FBA or marketplace fulfilment shipments, carton contents, labels, appointments, stock transfers and replenishments. Maintain inventory records, reorder points and stock forecasts; flag stockouts, excess stock, ageing inventory and discrepancies early. Perform or supervise product checks, packing, labelling and courier handover when required, particularly during launch and peak periods. Track cancellations, RTOs, returns, refunds, damaged goods, reimbursements and courier or marketplace claims through closure. Coordinate with suppliers, warehouses, packaging vendors, couriers and service providers and maintain clear follow-up records.
Customer experience and account protection
- Respond promptly and professionally to marketplace messages, product questions, complaints, return requests and warranty enquiries. Maintain a complaint and returns tracker and escalate safety, counterfeit, privacy, legal or repeated product issues immediately. Use truthful product information and approved review practices; never create misleading claims or offer prohibited incentives for reviews. Identify recurring customer issues and recommend improvements to listings, instructions, packaging, quality checks and fulfilment.
Sales, product research and performance reporting
- Monitor sales, traffic, conversion, fees, advertising, returns and contribution margin. Send an end-of-day report covering tasks completed, pending work, key issues or escalations, next-day priorities and products researched with supporting statistics. Research and evaluate new products suitable for the business to sell on Amazon.in and other e-commerce channels. For each opportunity, assess estimated demand and monthly sales, search trends, competitor count, price range, ratings and reviews, seasonality, MOQ and supplier availability, landed cost, marketplace and fulfilment fees, expected advertising cost, contribution margin and ROI, return risk and compliance requirements; provide a clear go/no-go recommendation. Manage basic marketplace advertising within approved budgets or coordinate with an external specialist, keeping clear change and performance records. Measure performance on sustainable profit and customer outcomes, not revenue alone; flag products or campaigns with weak unit economics.
Creative, administrative and finance support
- Create or edit basic listing images, banners, infographics and social media creatives using Canva or Adobe tools while maintaining brand consistency. Coordinate product photography, packaging artwork and marketing materials with external designers or agencies when specialist work is required. Maintain invoices, expenses, purchase records, marketplace settlements and reconciliation working papers for review by management and the accountant/CA. Support routine emails, schedules, documents, supplier follow-ups, meeting notes and action trackers for the Founder/Director. Maintain a clean digital filing structure and protect confidential customer, supplier, financial and company information.
Required skills and experience
- 2-4 years of hands-on e-commerce or marketplace operations experience; strong Amazon Seller Central experience is essential. Working knowledge of Flipkart, Meesho, Shopify or another marketplace/D2C platform is preferred. Good Excel or Google Sheets ability, including filters, lookups, product-research comparisons, unit-economics calculations, reconciliations and clear operational reporting. Basic design capability in Canva and/or Adobe Photoshop, with attention to image quality and marketplace requirements. Understanding of inventory, fulfilment, returns, marketplace settlements and basic bookkeeping support. Strong written and spoken English; Hindi and additional Indian languages are beneficial. High attention to detail, ownership, honesty, problem-solving ability and comfort working in a changing startup environment.
Preferred tools and platforms
Amazon Seller Central, Flipkart Seller Hub, Meesho Supplier Panel, Shopify or equivalent, Amazon Ads, Excel/Google Sheets, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, courier/OMS tools, and basic exposure to Tally, BUSY, Zoho Books or similar accounting software.
Key performance indicators

Inventory accuracy, stockout frequency, ageing stock and replenishment readiness. Return/RTO trends, customer response time and recurring complaint reduction. Marketplace account health and timely closure of policy or documentation issues. Accuracy and timeliness of end-of-day task reports, product-research data, settlement records and reconciliation support. Contribution margin and sustainable sales growth after marketplace fees, fulfilment, returns and advertising.
Target setting: Specific KPI targets should be agreed after the first 60-90 days, once actual sales volume, workload, product economics and service baselines are understood.
Education and working style: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred; equivalent e-commerce experience is accepted. The candidate must be organised, hands-on and able to prioritise marketplace, customer and dispatch issues while maintaining clear records.
