3D Technical Animator / 3D Generalist – Industrial Animation
Chasing Illusions Studio is looking for an experienced 3D Technical Animator / 3D Generalist who has strong expertise in creating industrial, mechanical, engineering, and process-based 3D animations.
This role is not focused only on creating visually attractive renders. We are looking for someone who can understand how machines, assemblies, industrial systems, and technical processes actually work, and then translate that information into clear, accurate, and visually impressive animations.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with CAD files, engineering references, technical drawings, machine assemblies, hard-surface models, and complex industrial processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality 3D industrial and technical animations for machines, equipment, manufacturing processes, engineering systems, and industrial facilities.
- Animate hard-surface mechanical components, machinery, assemblies, moving parts, production lines, equipment, and technical processes.
- Understand the complete technical flow of a machine or industrial process before beginning animation.
- Import, clean, optimize, and work with CAD/engineering models provided by clients.
- Read and understand CAD drawings, technical drawings, engineering references, dimensions, layouts, and assembly structures.
- Create accurate exploded views, assembly/disassembly animations, cutaway animations, internal mechanism animations, installation sequences, and process visualizations.
- Understand mechanical movements such as gears, pistons, conveyors, valves, pumps, motors, robotic systems, hydraulics, pipelines, and similar industrial components.
- Convert complex technical information into animations that are easy for clients and audiences to understand.
- Set up cameras and create professional animation sequences for technical presentations and corporate/industrial films.
- Work closely with project managers, storyboard artists, technical teams, and clients to understand project requirements.
- Maintain both technical accuracy and strong visual quality throughout the animation.
- Handle revisions efficiently while maintaining project deadlines.
- Optimize scenes and assets for efficient rendering and production.
Required Skills
Candidates must have:
- Minimum 3–4 years of professional experience in 3D animation or 3D generalist work.
- Proven experience specifically in industrial, mechanical, engineering, manufacturing, or technical animation.
- Strong understanding of hard-surface animation and mechanical movements.
- Good knowledge of CAD file workflows.
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering/CAD drawings and technical references.
- Strong understanding of machine assemblies and technical process flow.
- Ability to understand how an industrial system works instead of simply animating objects visually.
- Strong skills in animation, camera movement, lighting, materials, rendering, and scene composition.
- Good understanding of scale, proportions, hierarchy, pivots, parenting, constraints, and mechanical animation setups.
- Ability to independently understand a technical brief and convert it into a complete animation sequence.
- Strong problem-solving ability and attention to technical details.
Software Knowledge
Strong knowledge of one or more of the following is expected:
- Autodesk 3ds Max
- Blender
- Maya
- Unreal Engine
- Cinema 4D
- KeyShot
- V-Ray / Corona / similar rendering engines
Knowledge of CAD-related software/workflows such as the following will be an advantage:
- SolidWorks
- AutoCAD
- STEP / STP
- IGES
- FBX
- OBJ
- CAD model conversion and optimization workflows
Preferred Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have worked on projects involving:
- Industrial machinery
- Manufacturing plants
- Mechanical equipment
- Oil & Gas
- Power and Energy
- Automotive systems
- Construction equipment
- Engineering products
- Process animation
- Factory automation
- Safety and training animations
- Installation and maintenance animations
- Product assembly/disassembly animations
- Industrial walkthroughs
Portfolio Is Mandatory
Applicants must share a portfolio/showreel demonstrating industrial or technical animation work.
A portfolio consisting only of architectural walkthroughs, character animation, gaming environments, or product renders without technical/mechanical animation may not be sufficient for this role.
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete a small practical animation test to evaluate:
- Technical understanding
- CAD/model handling
- Hard-surface animation
- Mechanical movement
- Camera presentation
- Overall animation quality
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who sees an engineering model and asks:
“How does this machine actually work?”
rather than simply:
“How can I make this model look good?”
If you have a strong combination of technical understanding, animation skills, hard-surface expertise, and cinematic presentation, we would like to hear from you.
Apply with your updated CV, portfolio/showreel, current salary, expected salary, and availability to join.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
