As a small, established, and locally trusted business, we're looking for an experienced General Manager to modernize our operations, strengthen our systems, and help us grow while preserving the reputation and relationships we've built over the past quarter-century.
Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on General Manager to take ownership of day-to-day operations and drive meaningful improvement across the business — from scheduling and technician performance to customer service, finance, and vendor management. This is an ideal role for an MBA-level professional who wants full operational responsibility in a small business setting, with the opportunity to modernize processes, implement better systems, and directly shape the company's next chapter.
This is not a role for someone who wants to manage from a distance. You'll be closely involved in daily operations while also thinking strategically about efficiency, growth, and long-term sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Oversee daily operations, including scheduling, dispatch, and route optimization for technicians
- Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks and inefficiencies
- Establish and monitor KPIs for service quality, response times, and staff productivity
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and industry regulations (licensing, chemical handling, safety protocols)
Process Improvement
- Evaluate existing workflows, tools, and systems; identify outdated or inefficient practices
- Implement modern scheduling, CRM, invoicing, and reporting software where needed
- Standardize operating procedures and create documentation/training materials
- Introduce data-driven decision-making to areas historically run informally
People Management
- Supervise and support technicians and office staff (team of 2–10)
- Handle hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management
- Foster a positive, accountable team culture
- Manage scheduling conflicts, staffing gaps, and workload distribution
Financial Oversight
- Manage budgets, expenses, and vendor contracts
- Monitor pricing, margins, and profitability by service line
- Work with the owner and/or accountant on financial reporting and forecasting
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality
Customer Experience
- Ensure high standards of customer service and satisfaction
- Address escalated customer complaints or service issues
- Improve customer communication touchpoints (scheduling, follow-ups, billing)
Growth & Strategy
- Partner with the owner to define short- and long-term business goals
- Identify opportunities for service expansion, new markets, or additional revenue streams
- Support marketing and business development efforts as needed
Qualifications
Required
- MBA or equivalent advanced business degree
- 3+ years of experience in operations management, general management, or business management (small business experience strongly preferred)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of improving processes
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; comfortable managing a small, close-knit team
- Proficiency with business software (scheduling tools, CRM, QuickBooks or similar)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a hands-on environment
Preferred
- Experience in pest control, home services, field services, or a related trade industry
- Familiarity with route optimization
- Experience working directly with small business owners or in owner-operated companies
- Understanding of pest control industry regulations and licensing requirements (or willingness to learn quickly)
