Job Description
The Transformer Specialist provides consulting services to the electric power industry. These services include transformer consulting and factory inspections. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this individual ensures alignment with client objectives and financial targets while collaborating with global teams, managing remote coordination and ensuring seamless time-zone handoffs to deliver high-quality outcomes. In addition to this, provide high level technical training for internal team.
Roles and Responsibilities
Plans, schedules, conduct and coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work assigned which include but is not limited to:
- Transformer Factory Inspections
- Transformer Factory Audits
- Transformer Specification Creation and Reviews
- Develops tools to improve the technical assessments of assets and broaden the capability of the group.
- Provides in-house guidance on technical matters relating to transformer design, construction and performance.
- Advocate for client specifications and requests.
- Manages schedules, priorities, travels and meets company expectations.
- Promote an innovation culture that utilizes new tools, technology and processes to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Compile, implement and validate internal standards and technical specifications related to the area of expertise.
- Present to technical societies, contribute to industry standards development and publish technical papers.
- Develop and deliver training classes to share technical knowledge and expertise with internal team.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 20 years of applicable experience.
- OR master’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 18 years of applicable experience.
- OR PhD in Engineering with a minimum of 16 years of applicable experience.
- 16 years of experience in the power engineering field as a technical engineer, technical manager with power transformer expertise.
- Technical experience in design, manufacturing, testing and commissioning of distribution and power transformers.
- FAT experience for High Voltage transformers.
- Deep understanding of applicable IEEE/IEC/NESC and utility/client standards.
- Active participation in industry standards committees (e.g., IEEE, CIGRE).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Fundamental knowledge of transformer design, construction and testing.
- General knowledge of electric power systems and apparatus.
- A good knowledge of principles and practices related to utility and electrical substation operation.
- The ability to read and understand technical and construction drawings.
- Good analytical and presentation skills
- Basic knowledge of transform test equipment.
- Excellent relationship building skills with internal and external customers.
- Outstanding technical presentation skills in making presentations to a spectrum of audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and oral.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- A history of meeting customer driven deadlines.
- Analytical skills to problem solving and propose solutions.
- The ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and PDF editing software.
- Understanding safety-by-design concepts and constructability requirements in T&D projects.
- Mentoring and coaching skills to foster team development including their long-term career growth.
- Demonstrates the ability to positively influence others, lead change effectively and foster a strong, inclusive team culture.
