About the role:
We are looking for detail-oriented and creative Typesetters to join our Publishing Operations team on a six-month contract. The ideal candidate will be responsible for formatting book manuscripts into professionally designed print-ready and eBook-ready interiors while ensuring adherence to publishing standards and quality guidelines.
This role requires excellent attention to detail, strong layout and formatting skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects within defined turnaround times.
Key Responsibilities
- Format and typeset manuscripts for print and digital publishing.
- Create clean, visually appealing interior layouts aligned with publishing standards.
- Apply consistent paragraph styles, character styles, headers, footers, page numbering, and section breaks.
- Format tables, images, charts, footnotes, endnotes, equations, and other complex elements.
- Ensure books comply with trim size, bleed, margins, gutter, and print specifications.
- Perform quality checks to identify and correct formatting inconsistencies, spacing issues, typography errors, and layout defects.
- Incorporate author and internal review feedback accurately within agreed timelines.
- Handle books of varying complexity while maintaining quality standards.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Designers, and Quality Control teams to ensure timely project completion.
- Maintain turnaround time (TAT) and productivity targets without compromising quality.
- Verify image resolution (typically 300 dpi for print).
- Use approved fonts.
- Maintain consistent spacing, alignment, and leading.
- Verify color mode (CMYK as required).
- Ensure images are linked correctly.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of typography, page composition, and book layout principles.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word formatting.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign is mandatory.
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop is required.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat.
- Familiarity with paragraph styles, master pages, templates, indexing, tables, and image placement.
- Strong eye for detail and formatting consistency.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
- 1–3 years of experience in book typesetting, desktop publishing (DTP), or publishing production.
- Prior experience in publishing, printing, or digital content production is preferred.
- Familiarity with eBook formatting (EPUB) is an added advantage.
