Reporting To: Head of Sales / Brand Head
Job Purpose
The Sales Manager will be responsible for developing and managing the sales business for Kochi and Bengaluru, with a primary focus on retail FMCG channels such as supermarkets, hypermarkets, wellness centres, clinics, pharmacies, health stores, speciality stores, and other relevant retail outlets.
The role will be responsible for achieving sales targets, expanding distribution and retail presence, securing new listings, managing key accounts, developing the sales team, and ensuring strong visibility and availability of the company's herbal, Ayurvedic, health supplement, and wellness products.
Key Job Responsibilities.
1. Sales and Business Development
- Develop and execute sales plans for Kochi and Bengaluru to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Drive primary and secondary sales across assigned territories.
- Identify new business opportunities and expand the company's retail footprint.
- Develop new markets, territories, and customer segments for the company's products.
- Ensure regular market visits and maintain strong relationships with retailers, distributors, and key decision-makers.
- Monitor sales performance against targets and take corrective actions wherever required.
2. Retail FMCG Sales & Distribution
- Develop sales through:
- Supermarkets and hypermarkets
- Wellness and health stores
- Pharmacies and medical stores
- Clinics and healthcare centres
- Ayurvedic stores
- Organic and natural product stores
- Specialty health and nutrition outlets
- Other relevant modern trade and general trade channels
- Ensure adequate product availability, stock rotation, and replenishment at retail outlets.
- Expand the number of active outlets and improve sales productivity per outlet.
3. Product Listing & Key Account Management
- Identify potential retail chains and key accounts for product listing.
- Coordinate with supermarkets, hypermarkets, wellness chains, pharmacies, clinics, and other institutional/key accounts for new product listings.
- Negotiate commercial terms, listing requirements, margins, promotions, and visibility opportunities within company guidelines.
- Maintain strong relationships with purchasing teams, category managers, store managers, and other key stakeholders.
- Track listing status, purchase orders, sales movement, and payment/collection issues where applicable.
4. Sales Target & Performance Management
- Set and monitor sales targets for the territory, distributors, sales executives, promoters, and other team members.
- Prepare monthly and periodic sales forecasts.
- Review actual sales against targets and identify gaps.
- Implement strategies to improve sales and achieve assigned targets.
- Submit regular sales reports, market feedback, competitor updates, and performance reports to management.
5. Team Recruitment & Management
- Identify manpower requirements for the assigned territories.
- Recruit, interview, and recommend suitable Sales Executives, Sales Promoters, Merchandisers, and other sales personnel as required.
- Take responsibility for the appointment and deployment of sales promoters and other field sales personnel under his/her supervision, subject to company policies and approval procedures.
- Train and guide the sales team regarding products, selling techniques, customer handling, reporting, and company policies.
- Allocate territories, outlets, and responsibilities to team members.
- Monitor individual performance and take necessary corrective actions.
- Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews.
6. Sales Promoter & Merchandising Management
- Plan and deploy sales promoters at key supermarkets, hypermarkets, wellness centres, and other high-potential outlets.
- Ensure promoters are properly trained on product features, benefits, usage, and selling techniques.
- Monitor promoter attendance, productivity, sales performance, and outlet coverage.
- Ensure proper product display, shelf visibility, POSM placement, and merchandising standards.
- Develop promotional activities to improve product visibility and consumer conversion.
7. Market Development & Brand Building
- Develop the market for the company's Herbal, Ayurvedic, Health Supplement, Nutrition, and Wellness products.
- Identify consumer trends and emerging opportunities in health and wellness categories.
- Conduct competitor analysis covering pricing, products, promotions, distribution, and market presence.
- Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to the management and product/marketing teams.
- Support product launches and new product introductions in the assigned territories.
8. Promotions & Trade Activities
- Plan and execute approved promotional activities, retailer schemes, sampling, product demonstrations, and other sales initiatives.
- Coordinate with the marketing team for campaigns, promotions, exhibitions, health/wellness events, and other brand-building activities.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of promotions and recommend improvements.
10. Reporting & Administration
- Submit daily/weekly/monthly sales and market reports as required.
- Maintain accurate records of outlet visits, sales orders, new listings, distributor performance, promoter performance, and market activities.
- Prepare sales forecasts and territory-wise business plans.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, pricing guidelines, reporting procedures, and approved commercial terms.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
The Sales Manager will be evaluated primarily on:
- Achievement of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
- Primary and secondary sales growth.
- Number of new outlets and accounts opened.
- New product listings achieved.
- Growth of key accounts and modern trade business.
- Outlet coverage and sales productivity.
- Promoter and sales-team productivity.
- Product availability and merchandising standards.
- Collection/outstanding performance, wherever applicable.
- Territory-wise revenue and profitability growth.
- Market development and brand visibility.
Candidate Profile
Education: Graduate degree preferred; MBA/PG in Sales & Marketing will be an advantage.
Experience:
- 5-10 years of relevant sales experience, preferably in FMCG, health supplements, nutrition, Ayurveda, herbal, wellness, pharmacy, or related consumer products.
- Experience in modern trade, general trade, wellness, pharmacy, supermarkets/hypermarkets, and institutional/clinic channels will be preferred.
- Experience in team handling, distributor management, product listing, and retail expansion is desirable.
