About the Role: We are seeking a highly capable Manufacturing Quality Engineer to build and manage our quality framework from the ground up. In this critical role, you will own the entire quality lifecycle of high-precision defense, aerospace, and drone components. You will be responsible for executing rigorous Production Part Approval Processes (PPAP), ensuring strict dimensional compliance, managing advanced metrology operations, and acting as the primary quality liaison during critical production meetings with international clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Quality Planning (APQP) & PPAP:
- PPAP Execution: Lead the complete PPAP process for all new product introductions (NPI), establishing standards from raw material inputs through final machining.
- Core Quality Tools: Develop, implement, and maintain PFMEAs, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, and Measurement System Analyses (MSA) for complex, tight-tolerance parts.
- Process Control: Implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor production runs on our Cosmos VMCs (Mitsubishi controls) and ensure manufacturing stability.
Metrology & Quality Control:
- CMM & Inspection Oversight: Manage the inspection workflow utilizing our Accurate Spectra CMM running Rational DMIS software. Ensure First Article Inspections (FAI) and in-process checks align perfectly with strict engineering tolerances, 3D models, and ISO standards.
- Root Cause Analysis: Rapidly diagnose and resolve quality non-conformances, offset deviations, and machining issues on the floor using methodologies like 8D and 5-Why.
- Process Validation: Work closely with production and engineering to validate tooling and fixturing setups against quality standards before volume manufacturing begins.
Client Interfacing & Reporting:
- International Liaison: Lead technical quality discussions and present PPAP, inspection, and capability agendas in meetings with North American and other international clients.
- Documentation: Prepare comprehensive CMM reports, quality capability statements, and full PPAP submission packages for client reviews.
- Technical Communication: Effectively field technical inquiries from clients regarding dimensional integrity, quality assurance processes, and compliance tracking.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
- Experience: Extensive experience (5+ years) in a precision CNC machining environment, with a heavy focus on APQP, PPAP, and stringent quality management.
- Technical Expertise: You must know Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) inside and out. Deep, indisputable expertise in the full suite of core APQP tools and CMM metrology.
- Software & Equipment: Hands-on proficiency operating and programming an Accurate Spectra CMM using Rational DMIS software is required.
- Client-Facing Skills: Proven ability to communicate complex quality data, SPC charts, and CMM reports clearly to foreign stakeholders and manufacturing partners.
- Leadership: Strong command of the shop floor with the ability to manage inspection personnel and enforce rigorous quality protocols seamlessly alongside production schedules.
