Job Summary
We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Tea Sommelier to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating tea quality, developing blends, educating teams and customers about tea, and ensuring a premium tea experience. The role requires strong tasting abilities, deep knowledge of tea varieties, and the ability to communicate tea culture and craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
· Evaluate, taste, and grade different varieties of tea to ensure the highest quality standards.
· Develop in-depth knowledge of tea origins, cultivation methods, processing techniques, flavor profiles, and brewing methods.
· Assist in sourcing and selecting premium teas from tea estates, gardens, and suppliers.
· Conduct tea tasting sessions and presentations for internal teams, clients, and visitors.
· Contribute to product development by recommending new tea blends, flavors, and tea-based concepts.
· Prepare and maintain tasting notes, batch records, and quality assessment reports.
· Train sales, service, and marketing teams on tea knowledge, brewing standards, and tea presentation.
· Ensure proper storage, handling, and freshness control of all tea products.
· Collaborate with the kitchen and café teams to create suitable tea and food pairings.
· Maintain consistency in tea preparation, brewing, and service standards.
· Support the development of tea menus, tasting notes, and customer education materials.
· Stay updated with industry trends, seasonal teas, and market opportunities.
· Coordinate with suppliers for tea sampling, quality feedback, and sourcing.
· Ensure compliance with hygiene, safety, and quality control standards.
· Develop and implement SOPs for tea brewing, tasting, and service.
Required Skills & Qualifications
· Certification or training in Tea Tasting / Tea Sommelier / Tea Science preferred.
· Strong sensory skills with the ability to identify flavors, aromas, and quality variations.
· Good knowledge of different tea types such as black tea, green tea, white tea, oolong, and specialty teas.
· Excellent communication and presentation skills.
· Passion for tea culture and customer experience.
· Ability to conduct training and educational sessions.
Experience
· 2–5 years of experience in tea tasting, tea production, tea trading, hospitality, or specialty tea retail.
· Experience working with tea estates, tea brands, or specialty tea cafés will be an advantage.
Additional Requirements
· Strong attention to detail and quality control.
· Ability to travel to tea gardens or suppliers when required.
· Interest in product innovation and tea-based experiences.
