Job Summary
The Assistant Canteen Cook is responsible for assisting in the preparation and cooking of nutritious meals for VGP Heritage staff. The role involves supporting daily kitchen operations, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, and ensuring timely preparation and service of meals in the staff canteen.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Canteen Cook in preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea, and snacks for staff members.
- Clean, cut, and prepare vegetables, meats, and other ingredients required for cooking.
- Ensure food is prepared and served on time according to the staff meal schedule.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, cooking equipment, utensils, and dining areas.
- Wash and sanitize kitchen tools and equipment after use.
- Assist in receiving and storing food supplies properly.
- Monitor food stock levels and report shortages to the supervisor.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
- Minimize food wastage and ensure economical use of ingredients.
- Assist in serving food to staff during meal times when required.
- Support in cleaning and closing activities at the end of each shift.
- Follow all company policies and instructions issued by management.
Requirements
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a staff canteen, hotel, restaurant, industrial kitchen, or institutional catering setup.
- Basic knowledge of South Indian and Indian cooking methods.
- Understanding of food hygiene and safety practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a team environment.
- Physically fit and able to stand for long hours.
- Honest, disciplined, and punctual.
