About Oshadi Collective
Oshadi Collective is a regenerative textile and apparel company based in Erode, Tamil Nadu.
We work across the textile value chain, from cotton and yarn through weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, finishing and garment production. Our fabrics are developed through a combination of in-house coordination and specialised external weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing and finishing partners.
We are looking for an experienced Textile Quality Incharge – Fabric & Processing who can independently control fabric quality from development and greige stage through processing and final finished-fabric approval.
This is a hands-on technical quality role. The successful candidate must be comfortable physically inspecting fabrics, analysing defects, understanding their root causes and working directly with mills and processors to prevent recurrence.
Key Roles & Responsibilities1. Fabric Quality Inspection
- Inspect greige, dyed, printed, washed, finished and other processed fabrics.
- Conduct roll-wise fabric inspection using the 4-Point System or applicable inspection standards.
- Check and record fabric defects including weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing and finishing defects.
- Verify roll length, usable width, GSM, construction and other required parameters.
- Classify and segregate accepted, rejected, hold and second-quality fabrics.
- Ensure rejected or questionable fabric is clearly identified and physically segregated.
- Maintain roll-wise inspection and quality records.
- Ensure inspection results are traceable to the relevant fabric, lot, roll, supplier and process.
2. Woven Fabric Quality
Candidates should be capable of checking and analysing:
- Warp and weft counts.
- EPI and PPI.
- Fabric construction.
- Finished and greige width.
- GSM.
- Weave structure.

- Barre/appearance variation where applicable.
- Selvedge defects.
- Stains, holes and contamination.
- Roll-to-roll variation.
- Shade variation.
- Fabric handle and appearance.
- Dimensional stability and shrinkage.
The candidate should be able to distinguish between yarn-related, weaving-related, processing-related and finishing-related defects and identify the likely source of a problem.
3. Knitted Fabric Quality
The role will also support knitted fabrics.
Candidates should understand or be willing to develop strong working knowledge of:
- GSM.
- Diameter/open width.
- Course and wale appearance.

- Lycra/elastane performance where applicable.
- Knitting defects.
- Holes and needle lines.
- Barre.
- Uneven appearance.
- Dyeing variation.
- Dimensional stability.
- Fabric recovery and stretch where applicable.
Strong woven experience is essential. Practical knitted-fabric experience will be an advantage.
4. Dyeing & Colour Quality
- Review bulk fabric against approved lab dip, standard or master reference.
- Check shade consistency within rolls and between rolls.
- Conduct or coordinate roll-wise shade segregation/shade banding where required.
- Review head-centre-tail variation where applicable.
- Check colour under appropriate light sources.
- Understand metamerism and identify significant colour variation.
- Monitor dyeing defects including patchiness, streaks, uneven dyeing, stains and shade variation.
- Coordinate with dye houses for corrective action and reprocessing where technically appropriate.
- Ensure reprocessed material is independently rechecked before approval.
5. Printing & Surface Quality
- Inspect printed fabric against approved strike-off/artwork/reference.
- Check print placement, repeat, registration, colour, coverage and overall appearance.
- Identify printing defects including misregistration, patchiness, screen/printing marks, colour variation and incomplete printing.
- Check hand block printed and other craft-based fabrics with appropriate understanding of acceptable process variation versus genuine quality defects.
- Coordinate corrective action with printers and relevant development teams.
6. Fabric Testing & Performance
Coordinate and review relevant fabric tests including:
- Dimensional stability/shrinkage.
- GSM.
- Fabric width.
- Colour fastness to washing.
- Colour fastness to rubbing/crocking.
- Perspiration fastness where required.
- Light fastness where required.
- Tensile/tear strength where applicable.
- Pilling where applicable.
- Spirality for knits.
- Fabric composition where required.
- Other customer or product-specific testing.
Maintain test reports and ensure failed results are escalated before fabric is released to production.
7. Shrinkage Control
- Conduct and maintain fabric shrinkage testing before bulk cutting.
- Record warp/length and weft/width shrinkage separately.
- Identify roll/lot variation where relevant.
- Communicate approved shrinkage information clearly to Fabric Merchandising, Pattern/CAD and Cutting teams.
- Ensure material with abnormal shrinkage is placed on hold until reviewed.
- Investigate unexpected dimensional changes after washing or finishing.
8. Incoming Fabric Approval
Before fabric is released for bulk cutting or further processing:
- Verify required inspection has been completed.
- Verify shade/lot segregation.
- Review fabric test results where applicable.
- Confirm width, GSM, construction and shrinkage against required specification.
- Identify quality risks affecting cutting or garment production.
- Clearly mark material as PASS / HOLD / REJECT according to the company's quality procedure.
Fabric with unresolved quality issues should not be released merely to meet a production deadline.
9. Vendor & Processor Quality Control
The role requires regular visits to:
- Weaving units.
- Knitting units.
- Dye houses.
- Printers.
- Washing units.
- Finishing units.
- Other textile job workers.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct in-process and final quality checks at vendor locations where required.
- Identify problems before material is returned to Oshadi.
- Investigate repeated defects.
- Communicate corrective actions clearly.
- Follow up corrective and preventive action.
- Maintain vendor quality-performance records.
- Escalate recurring quality problems to Management and relevant teams.
10. Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action
The Quality Incharge should not simply identify a defect.
For significant or recurring failures, the candidate must investigate:
What is the defect → where did it originate → why did it happen → how much material is affected → can it be safely rectified → what corrective action is required → how will recurrence be prevented?
Root-cause investigation may involve:
- Yarn.
- Warping/sizing.
- Weaving.
- Knitting.
- Dyeing.
- Printing.
- Washing.
- Finishing.
- Handling/storage.
- Cutting or subsequent production.
Maintain corrective-action records for significant quality issues.
11. Quality Decision & Escalation
- Independently identify and report quality failures.
- Place questionable material on HOLD pending technical/management review.
- Do not alter inspection results or quality classifications merely to match production requirements.
- Clearly document any concession, deviation or commercial acceptance separately from normal quality approval.
- Ensure buyer/customer-approved deviations are properly documented where applicable.
- Escalate major defects, recurring failures and abnormal process losses immediately.
The Quality Incharge should provide the technical quality recommendation. Commercial acceptance or financial settlement of non-conforming material remains with authorised Management/Merchandising.
12. Quality Documentation & Traceability
Maintain clear records including:
- Fabric inspection reports.
- Roll-wise defect reports.
- 4-Point System reports.
- Shrinkage reports.
- Shade-band/lot segregation records.
- Laboratory/test reports.

Work closely with:
- Fabric Merchandising.
- Textile Design & Development.
- Inventory/Warehouse.
- Production.
- Cutting.

Candidates should have strong practical knowledge of most of the following:
- Woven fabric inspection.
- Fabric construction.
- Yarn count.
- EPI/PPI.
- GSM and width.
