Job Summary
Sea Blue Ship Yard is looking for skilled and dedicated Pipe Fitters to join our shipbuilding team. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, installing, repairing, and maintaining piping systems onboard ships and within the shipyard. The role requires the ability to read engineering drawings, ensure accurate pipe fit-up, and work in compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret piping isometric drawings, P&IDs, and fabrication drawings.
- Measure, mark, cut, bevel, align, and fit pipes according to engineering specifications.
- Install and assemble pipes, flanges, valves, fittings, supports, and other piping components.
- Prepare pipe joints for welding by ensuring proper alignment and fit-up.
- Carry out tack fitting and verify dimensions before welding.
- Install piping systems onboard vessels and in fabrication workshops.
- Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic test preparations.
- Assist in pressure testing, flushing, and commissioning activities.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
- Use hand tools, power tools, grinders, cutting torches, and measuring instruments safely and effectively.
- Coordinate with welders, fabricators, supervisors, and QA/QC personnel.
- Follow company safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area.
- Report material shortages, quality issues, and safety concerns to the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- ITI Fitter, ITI Pipe Fitter, Mechanical Trade, or equivalent qualification.
- Candidates with Marine Fitter qualifications are preferred.
- Experience: 2–5 years in shipbuilding, marine, offshore, oil & gas, heavy engineering, or industrial piping.
- Freshers with relevant ITI qualifications may also apply for trainee positions.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and understand piping isometric drawings.
- Knowledge of pipe fabrication and installation techniques.
- Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, and other piping materials.
- Familiarity with valves, flanges, gaskets, and pipe supports.
- Knowledge of pipe alignment, levelling, and fit-up.
- Ability to use measuring instruments such as measuring tape, spirit level, vernier caliper, and angle gauge.
- Understanding of pressure testing procedures.
- Basic knowledge of welding preparation and fabrication practices.
