Job Title: Business Development Manager — Energy (Power Electronics & Storage)
Location: Trichy / Chennai (travel across South India + key national accounts) |
Experience: 5-10 years |
Reports to: Founder / CEO
About Frigate: Frigate is a B2B manufacturing execution company. We take products from development to serial production — enclosures, CKD/box build and precision manufacturing — through a network of 33 committed manufacturing partners selected from over 900 qualified Indian suppliers, across 19 export markets. This role owns our energy segment: enclosures, CKD parts and integrated box build for inverter, UPS, BESS and EV charging OEMs — one of Frigate's fastest-growing lines, backed by dedicated capex and certification investment.
The Role: You own the energy account P&L end to end — from first customer conversation to signed program to on-time delivery. This is not lead generation; it's account ownership. You carry a revenue number, not an activity count.
What you'll do (Nature of Job):
-
Own and grow named accounts across inverter/UPS brands, BESS integrators, EV charger OEMs and industrial power-electronics customers
-
Convert qualified meetings (from outbound/inbound) into technical discussions, quotes, and signed volume commitments
-
Sell across the full scope ladder: enclosure only enclosure + CKD integrated box build
-
Negotiate program terms: volume commitments, payment terms, LC/advance structures — protect Frigate from open-ended credit exposure
-
Coordinate with engineering/costing (DFM, quotes) and operations (delivery, OTD) to keep customer commitments real
-
Track and report account-wise booking, billing and GM against target, weekly
-
Represent Frigate at industry events (Intersolar, ELECRAMA, Battery Show) and build the account pipeline from exhibitor/attendee lists
-
Build and maintain the certification/compliance narrative with customers — BIS, UL, ROHS status per program
Must have (Essential Qualification):
-
5-10 years B2B sales/BD in power electronics, electrical OEM, industrial components, or contract manufacturing — must have carried a revenue number, not just generated leads
-
Proven ability to close programs, not just single POs — recurring/volume accounts on your track record
-
Comfortable with technical conversations: reads a drawing, understands IP ratings, enclosure specs, basic power electronics vocabulary (can be trained, but curiosity is mandatory)
-
Negotiation strength on commercial terms, especially payment terms and volume commitments
-
Willingness to travel — this account base is national, concentrated in South and West India clusters
Good to have:
-
Existing relationships with inverter/UPS/BESS OEMs or EPCs
-
Exposure to BIS/UL/certification processes
-
Experience selling contract manufacturing or vendor-managed programs (vs. one-time product sales)
Compensation: Fixed + booking variable + collection-linked variable (aligned to Frigate's comp structure — details at interview). Meaningful upside tied to program value closed and collected, not just booked.
