88 Pictures is looking for an experienced and highly skilled Unreal Engine Technical Director to lead the technical direction and development of the Unreal Engine pipeline for our animation productions.
The Technical Director will act as the bridge between the creative and technical teams, working closely with Directors, Animators, Layout, Lighting, FX, Modeling, Rigging, and Production to develop efficient workflows and deliver high-quality real-time content.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction of Unreal Engine projects from pre-production through final delivery.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize Unreal Engine production pipelines for animation and cinematic content.
- Collaborate with Directors and department leads to translate creative requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Establish Unreal Engine project structures, asset standards, workflows, and production best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide hands-on support to artists and animators.
- Optimize scenes, assets, materials, lighting, animation, FX, and rendering for performance and visual quality.
- Develop tools and automation using Blueprints, Python, C++, and Unreal Engine APIs where appropriate.
- Manage and support workflows involving Sequencer, Control Rig, Animation Blueprints, Niagara, Lumen, Nanite, and real-time rendering.
- Work with pipeline and engineering teams to integrate Unreal Engine with DCC applications and studio production systems.
- Establish efficient workflows for asset publishing, version control, project management, and data management.
- Identify technical risks and provide solutions that support production schedules and creative goals.
- Mentor Technical Artists and artists on Unreal Engine tools, workflows, and best practices.
- Evaluate new Unreal Engine features and technologies and recommend improvements to the production pipeline.
Required Skills & Experience
- 6–8+ years of experience in animation, VFX, games, virtual production, or a related field.
- Strong hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 5.
- Excellent understanding of real-time rendering and animation pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of Blueprints, Sequencer, Control Rig, Animation Blueprints, Materials, Lighting, Niagara, Lumen, and Nanite.
- Experience with Unreal Engine optimization and debugging.
- Strong scripting/programming skills in Python, C++, or Blueprints.
- Experience working with Maya, Blender, Houdini, or other DCC applications.
- Familiarity with Perforce, Git, or other version-control systems.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with both creative and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Technical Director, Senior Technical Artist, or Pipeline Technical Director.
- Experience working on animated series, feature animation, VFX, or cinematic productions.
- Experience with episodic Unreal Engine production.
- Knowledge of virtual production and real-time cinematics.
- Experience with motion capture, facial animation, MetaHuman, or performance capture.
- Experience creating artist-friendly tools and automation.
- Experience managing or mentoring a technical team.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Unreal Engine expert and strong technical leader who understands both the creative demands of animation and the technical requirements of real-time production. They should be comfortable solving problems independently, improving workflows, and working closely with artists and directors in a fast-paced production environment.
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
