Technical Architect – Industrial Automation

Position Overview
We are looking for a Technical Architect to lead solution architecture, technology definition, and engineering governance for Factory Automation software projects under the Industrial Automation vertical. The role requires strong experience across various layers of the ISA-95 architecture, with hands-on expertise in SCADA/HMI, MES/MOM, IIoT, industrial data platforms, historians, dashboards, industrial protocols, APIs, databases, cloud technologies, and modern software engineering practices.
The Technical Architect will work closely with customers, business leaders, delivery managers, product owners, and engineering teams to design scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions. The role also requires a strong understanding of factory operations, industrial connectivity, data acquisition, visualization, reporting, workflow automation, and integration with enterprise IT systems.
Key Responsibilities
Analysis and Technical Design
- Translate customer requirements into scalable solution architectures covering software, data, integration, infrastructure, security, and operational aspects.
- Create architecture blueprints, high-level designs, deployment models, integration approaches, interface specifications, and non-functional
requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend suitable architecture patterns for on-premises, cloud, edge, and hybrid industrial automation solutions.
- Participate in customer workshops, technical discovery sessions, solution demonstrations, architecture reviews, and proposals.
Architecture and Domain Expertise
- Architect solutions integrating industrial equipment, sensors, PLCs, controllers, gateways, SCADA systems, historians, and enterprise applications such as ERP, PLM, and WMS.
- Guide teams on industrial connectivity using protocols such as OPC UA,Modbus, MQTT, BACnet, SNMP, and related communication standards.
- Provide architectural direction for SCADA/HMI, MES/MOM, OEE, production tracking, equipment monitoring, alarms, dashboards, traceability, reporting, and workflow automation solutions.
Software Engineering and Technical Leadership
- Provide technical leadership for development teams working on web, desktop,mobile, cloud, and edge applications in the industrial domain.
- Guide database and data engineering activities involving SQL Server, relational and time-series databases, schema design, query optimization,stored procedures, and integration data models.
- Establish coding standards, architecture guardrails, reusable components,API design principles, logging, error handling, and testing practices.
- Review solutions for data flow, latency, reliability, failover, availability, and maintainability required for mission-critical factory environments.
- Support engineering teams in troubleshooting complex technical issues.
Cloud and Digital Solution Design
- Design cloud, edge, and hybrid architectures for industrial digital transformation solutions.
- Define solution approaches using cloud platforms, covering infrastructure, networking, security, storage, messaging, containers, serverless services, and monitoring.
- Ensure industrial cybersecurity, authentication, authorization, data privacy, and regulatory requirements are addressed in solution design.
- Support DevOps and release engineering practices including CI/CD, infrastructure automation, containerization, observability, environment
management, and controlled deployments.
Qualifications and Skills Required
9–15 years of IT experience, including at least 3 years in a Technical Architect, Solution Architect, or similar leadership role.- Strong experience in Industrial/Factory Automation software development and system integration projects.
- Hands-on knowledge of SCADA, HMI, MES/MOM, DCS, PLCs, industrial gateways, and historians.
- Good understanding of industrial protocols and integration technologies such as OPC UA/DA, Modbus, MQTT, BACnet, SNMP, REST, SOAP/Web
Services, TCP/IP, and secure APIs.
- Strong software architecture and development background across desktop, web, cloud, and edge applications.
- Experience with SQL Server or similar databases, including schema design, queries, stored procedures, performance tuning, and data modeling.
- Experience designing on-premises, cloud, edge, and hybrid solutions using platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
- Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, containerization, automated testing, monitoring, release management, and secure delivery practices.
- Strong analytical, documentation, estimation, customer communication, and technical decision-making skills.
