1. The Role Objective
The Head of Operations is the "Integrator" of the company. You will own the entire lifecycle of a project—from the moment a designer creates a concept to the final handover at the client’s site. Your job is to ensure that the Design is beautiful and buildable, the Manufacturing is high-quality and on-time, the Accounts are profitable, and the Site Execution is flawless. You are the final authority on SOPs and the System that connects all these departments.
2. Cross-Functional Responsibilities
A. Design & Technical Validation (The Design-to-Build Bridge)
- Feasibility Review: Work with the Design team to ensure that bespoke concepts can actually be manufactured and installed within budget.
- Technical Standardization: Oversee the creation of "Shop Drawings" to ensure they are 100% accurate before they hit the factory floor, reducing errors and material wastage.
B. Manufacturing & Workshop Leadership (Bespoke Quality)
- Production Oversight: Manage the factory/workshop (Joinery, Upholstery, Finishing). You must understand the "craft" of furniture to ensure luxury standards are met.
- Resource Allocation: Balance the factory load so that multiple bespoke projects move simultaneously without bottlenecks.
- Quality Culture: Enforce a "Zero-Defect" gate-pass system for every piece of furniture leaving the facility.
C. Site Execution & Project Management (The Final Frontier)
- End-to-End Timelines: Create and manage the "Master Project Schedule" that synchronizes the Design studio, the Factory, and the Site teams.
- On-Site Discipline: Lead the Project Managers to ensure site work (Civil, Electrical, Fit-out) is ready before furniture arrives.
- Client Handover: Own the final delivery and "Snag List" resolution, ensuring the client experience is as premium as the design.
D. Commercial & Accounts Integration (The Profitability Guard)
- BOQ & Cost Control: Work with Accounts/Procurement to ensure that "Bespoke" doesn't mean "Loss-making." Monitor the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) vs. Actual Spends.
- Cash Flow Coordination: Ensure that procurement cycles (buying expensive woods/fabrics) are aligned with client payment milestones and company cash flow.
E. Systems, SOPs & Technology Adoption (The Organizational Glue)
- Process Architecture: Design and enforce SOPs for every department to ensure the company runs like a machine, not a series of fires.
- Technology as a Tool: Lead the company-wide adoption of a Project Management/ERP system. You will ensure that Accounts see the costs, Designers see the status, and the Factory sees the drawings—all in one digital place.
3. Requirements & Domain Expertise
- Industry Background: 15+ years of experience specifically in the Premium Interior Design and Bespoke Furniture sector.
- Domain Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of furniture construction, wood types, finishes (PU, Polyester, etc.), and hardware.
- Expertise in reading architectural drawings and identifying site-level technical risks.
- Leadership Style: A "holistic" leader who can hold an Accountant accountable for margins, a Designer accountable for technical accuracy, and a Carpenter accountable for finishing.
- System-First Mindset: You believe that a company cannot scale without SOPs and Digital Tracking. You have experience moving teams from "WhatsApp/Call culture" to "System/Update culture."
- Education: A background in Architecture, Interior Design, or Industrial Production is essential to command respect from all departments.
4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- OTIF (On-Time In-Full): The project is delivered on the promised date without missing items.
- Gross Margin Integrity: The project was completed within the estimated budget (managing the Accounts/Procurement side).
- System Compliance: 100% of the project lifecycle is documented in the company's ERP/Management software (No "offline" work).
- First-Time Right (FTR): Reducing the percentage of pieces that need to come back from the site to the factory for rework.
