- Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assisting patients with personal hygiene (bathing, grooming, oral care), dressing, and toileting.
- Vital Sign Monitoring: Measuring and recording temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate.
- Mobility Support: Helping patients with transfers (bed to wheelchair), ambulation (walking), and repositioning to prevent bedsores.
- Clinical Assistance: Collecting lab specimens (urine, stool), assisting in minor medical procedures, and changing basic bandages.
- Nutritional Support: Delivering meals, assisting with feeding, and monitoring fluid intake and output.
- Documentation: Maintaining accurate patient records, charting behavioral changes, and reporting abnormalities to senior nursing staff.
- Environmental Maintenance: Keeping patient rooms and equipment (wheelchairs, beds) clean and sanitized.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Typically requires a High School Diploma or GED.
- Certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Patient Care Technician (PCT) certifications are often preferred or required depending on the setting.
- Soft Skills: High levels of empathy, patience, and compassion are critical for providing emotional support.
- Physical Stamina: The role requires the ability to stand for long periods and lift or move patients safely.
