Business Development Executive – Inside Sales

About the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Executive (Inside Sales) to join our growing medical communications team. This role is pivotal in identifying new business opportunities, building relationships with pharmaceutical and biotech clients, and driving revenue growth through strategic inside sales efforts.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the healthcare and pharmaceutical landscape, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record in B2B sales within the life sciences or med-comm sector.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Lead Generation
Identify and qualify new business opportunities within pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies.
Conduct targeted outreach via phone, email, LinkedIn, and other digital channels to engage prospective clients.
Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified leads using CRM tools.
Research industry trends, competitor activities, and potential client needs to tailor sales approaches.
Client Engagement & Relationship Management
Engage with key decision-makers including Medical Affairs, Marketing, and Communications leaders.
Conduct discovery calls to understand client challenges, therapeutic areas of focus, and project requirements.
Present the company's service offerings compellingly and accurately.
Nurture long-term relationships with prospects to convert them into clients.
Sales Strategy & Execution
Collaborate with the Business Development Manager, Chief Revenue Officer and Senior Leadership to develop and execute inside sales strategies.
Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly sales targets (lead generation, meetings booked, proposals sent, deals closed).
Prepare compelling proposals, pitch decks, and client presentations in collaboration with medical and creative teams.
Track and report on sales metrics, pipeline health, and conversion rates.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Medical Writing, Medical Education, and Client Services teams to ensure seamless hand off new business.
Provide market feedback to internal teams to refine service offerings and positioning.
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's/ Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
1-2 years of experience in inside sales, business development, or account management within:
• Medical communications agencies.
• Pharmaceutical/biotech companies.
• Healthcare marketing or advertising agencies.
• Medical education or publications firms.
Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding sales targets.
Skills & Competencies
Industry Knowledge: Understanding of pharma communications and the med-comms landscape.
Sales Acumen: Strong prospecting, ability to purse to the right leads, ability to manage complex B2B sales cycles.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate value propositions clearly and persuasively.
Relationship Building: Natural networker with the ability to build trust and rapport with senior-level clients.
Tech-Savvy: Proficiency with CRM platforms, LinkedIn and Microsoft Office Suite.
Self-Motivated: Highly organized, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Resilience: Comfortable with rejection; persistent and positive mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree (MSc, PhD, MBA) in a life sciences or business discipline.
Familiarity with commercial writing, medical writing, publication planning, or congress/conference strategy.
Understanding of digital health trends and omni-channel communication strategies.
