Mechanical Design Engineer
NDT Technologies (P) Ltd.
Location: Navi Mumbai | Type: Full-time, On-site | Experience: Minimum 5 years
Candidate Location: Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra
About Us
NDT Technologies designs and manufactures inspection robots and proprietary non-destructive testing systems for environments that are difficult or hazardous to access. Our solutions serve critical industries including Defence, Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, and Railways, where reliability and performance under demanding real-world conditions are essential.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for the mechanical design of our robotic and instrumentation products, from concept through to manufactured, validated hardware. This is a hands-on, end-to-end engineering role with responsibility for how a product is built and how reliably it performs in the field.
This position calls for an engineer who reasons rigorously about loads, materials, tolerances, manufacturing methods, and overall system behaviour, and who applies CAD as a means of expressing sound engineering judgement. It is not a drafting-only role.
Key Responsibilities
Design mechanical assemblies and mechanisms for inspection robots, mechanised scanners and NDT hardware, from first principles through to production-ready drawings.
Lead design-for-manufacture: select appropriate materials and processes, define tolerances, and coordinate with the workshop and vendors to ensure parts are produced correctly and efficiently.
Develop and validate 3D models and carry out the necessary engineering analysis (structural, thermal, and motion, as applicable), iterating on the basis of test results.
Integrate mechanical design with electronics, actuators, and sensing systems, designing for complete system performance.
Prototype, test, and refine hardware, working closely with the workshop throughout the development cycle.
Essential Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, with a demonstrable record of products that have been manufactured and deployed.
Experience in SPM (Special Purpose Machine) development is highly appreciated.
Proven experience taking designs into production-grade manufacturing — not limited to lab-scale or R&D prototypes. We require an engineer who has designed hardware that has been built to production standards, at quality and repeatability suitable for real-world deployment.
Strong command of design-for-manufacturing, including machining, fabrication, sheet metal, and fastening, with a clear understanding of how design decisions affect cost and producibility.
Proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering analysis, supported by sound engineering judgement.
Solid grounding in mechanical systems, including kinematics, structures, drivetrains, and sealing.
The ability to translate an ambiguous problem into a buildable, reliable solution.
(Bonus) Qualifications
Experience with automated and mechatronic systems, including motion control, actuators, and robotics.
Exposure to harsh-environment or field-deployed equipment (marine, industrial, or hazardous-area applications)
What we offer
The opportunity to work on genuinely novel engineering challenges, with significant ownership and the satisfaction of seeing your designs progress from concept to field deployment.
