The Electrical Officer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical and electronic equipment onboard the vessel. This critical role ensures the continuous functionality of power generation, distribution systems, control systems, navigation equipment, communication systems, and automation systems, adhering to international maritime regulations and company policies. The Electrical Officer works under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer and plays a vital role in maintaining the vessel's operational readiness and safety standards.
- Oversee and execute the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical and electronic systems, including main generators, emergency generators, switchboards, motor control centers, and associated distribution networks.
- Perform regular inspections and preventive maintenance on all electrical machinery, equipment, and installations to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns.
- Diagnose and rectify faults in complex control systems, automation systems, alarm systems, and monitoring equipment, utilizing schematics, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
- Manage the inventory of electrical spare parts, consumables, and tools, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper record-keeping for efficient maintenance planning.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant international maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code) and company safety procedures related to electrical installations and operations.
- Maintain and repair navigation and communication equipment, including radar, ECDIS, GMDSS, satellite communication systems, and internal communication networks.
- Assist the Chief Engineer in planning and executing electrical overhauls, major repairs, and modifications, providing expert technical input.
- Keep accurate and detailed records of all electrical maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and spare parts consumption.
- Conduct regular safety checks on electrical equipment, ensuring proper grounding, insulation, and protection against electrical hazards.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers and ratings on electrical safety and maintenance practices.
- Respond promptly to electrical emergencies and breakdowns, ensuring quick and effective resolution to minimize operational disruptions.
- Monitor the performance of electrical systems and propose improvements for energy efficiency and reliability.
