Reports To: Plant Manager / Operations Manager
Job Summary
The Maintenance & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of factory machinery, equipment, and utilities while maintaining a safe and compliant working environment. The role combines preventive and corrective maintenance responsibilities with workplace safety management to minimize downtime, prevent accidents, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Responsibilities
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Monitor the performance of production machinery, utilities, and equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and utility-related issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain records of maintenance schedules, breakdowns, repairs, and spare parts inventory.
- Coordinate with production teams to ensure uninterrupted plant operations.
- Supervise maintenance technicians, contractors, and service providers.
- Ensure proper upkeep of factory utilities such as boilers, compressors, DG sets, pumps, and electrical systems.
- Recommend equipment improvements to enhance reliability and efficiency.
Safety Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Ensure compliance with statutory safety regulations and company safety standards.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss events and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct safety induction programs, toolbox talks, and employee awareness training.
- Monitor the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
- Ensure implementation of Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems for hazardous activities.
- Coordinate emergency response plans, fire safety measures, and mock drills.
- Maintain safety records, reports, and regulatory documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Diploma/Certificate in Industrial Safety preferred.
- Knowledge of factory maintenance and occupational safety regulations.
Experience
- 4 - 8 years of experience in factory maintenance, plant engineering, or industrial safety.
- Experience in manufacturing plants, processing industries, FMCG, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, textiles, or engineering industries preferred.
- Experience handling maintenance planning and safety compliance simultaneously is highly desirable.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Understanding of electrical systems, mechanical equipment, utilities, and industrial machinery.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
- Knowledge of fire safety systems and emergency preparedness.
- Ability to read technical drawings, maintenance manuals, and equipment documentation.
- Proficiency in MS Office and maintenance reporting systems.
