8+ years of professional embedded firmware or embedded systems engineering experience, with production experience shipping real products
Expert-level C, with a strong grasp of memory models, ISR safety, and critical-section design on ARM Cortex-M
Hands-on RTOS experience, with FreeRTOS required
Direct experience with at least one Nordic BLE SoC (nRF52 or nRF53 series) and one STM32 microcontroller family
Practical BLE experience: GAP/GATT, advertising/scanning, and a BLE stack such as Nordic SoftDevice or Zephyr
Integration experience with at least one cellular (LTE/GSM) or satellite (Iridium-class) communication module
Strong flash-memory background: flash filesystems, wear leveling, and bootloader/DFU design
I2C/SPI/UART sensor driver development, from datasheet to production
Comfortable using JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes to root-cause intermittent field failures
Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred:
Experience with marine electronics, industrial IoT, or other harsh-environment or battery-powered products
Underwater acoustic communications or DSP experience (FSK/PSK modulation, FFT/Goertzel demodulation, ARQ protocols)
Satellite-IoT ingestion experience beyond Iridium
Experience mentoring engineers or leading a small firmware team
Working knowledge of AES or other embedded cryptography
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain firmware for Nordic nRF52/nRF53 BLE SoCs and STM32L4 microcontrollers across the SC2, GIGO, D&T, and Diver Tracking Buoy product lines
Build and extend FreeRTOS-based task, queue, and mutex architectures, including safe ISR-to-task handoffs and critical-section design
Own BLE stack integration and scan arbitration so multiple concurrent scan modes share a single radio without interfering with each other
Integrate and maintain cellular, satellite, and GNSS connectivity, including store-and-forward and retry logic for unreliable links
Implement marine and industrial communication protocols (NMEA 0183/2000, AIS, Modbus RTU, SDI-12, J1939) behind a portable hardware-abstraction layer
Develop and debug I2C/SPI/UART sensor drivers, from datasheet to production, for pressure, IMU, temperature, and water-quality sensors
Manage on-chip and external flash storage, EEPROM, and dual-bank bootloader/DFU update flows, and diagnose flash corruption or timing issues
Implement and maintain encrypted device-to-server communication for field data transmission
Apply and enforce internal coding standards through code review, and produce supporting technical documentation for releases
Collaborate daily with PCB design, product, and cloud/server teams across India and the UK, and mentor junior firmware engineers
