JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB
The Senior Wireless Firmware Engineer leads the design, implementation, and optimization of wireless with a strong focus on wireless communication protocols and system performance. This role provides technical leadership on complex, underdefined problems and delivers reliable, high-quality solutions that improve product performance, robustness, and user experience. The position requires deep technical expertise, sound engineering judgment, and close collaboration across software, hardware, systems, and test teams.
This role will serve as a foundational member of the India-based wireless firmware team, with the opportunity to grow into a technical leadership role as the team expands. This position will collaborate closely with U.S. based firmware and verification teams. Maintaining a working overlap with the U.S. central time of two to three hours is required.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS
- Wireless firmware development
- Design, implement, and maintain wireless firmware for mulitple platforms.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance, with the opportunity to lead a small team of engineers as the India-based team grows.
- Provide technical direction and develop scalable solutions that can support a growing team.
- Decompose high-level requirements into tactical actions that enable the team to execute effectively.
- Apply Bluetooth Core specifications and other relevant wireless standards to product design and implementation.
- Develop firmware for BLE, NFMI, and related wireless radio technologies.
- Optimize connection behavior, power consumption, latency and throughput by tuning protocol parameters (e.g., connection intervals, PHY, data length extension).
- Debug and resolve complex issues across the wireless subsystem in a timely and systematic manner
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship
- As the team grows, mentor engineers to strengthen technical capability and accelerate team development.
- Create technical documentation and deliver knowledge-sharing sessions to improve team effectiveness.
- Serve as a role model for sound engineering practices, technical depth, and professional collaboration.
- Support verification of firmware functionality through targeted automated tests and analysis
- Support the design and documentation of tests based on requirements to ensure appropriate functional and system-level coverage.
- Support creation of unit tests, semi-automated tests, and automated tests to improve verification efficiency and product quality.
- Investigate failed tests and system integration issues, as needed.
- Support the development of new test strategies and continuously improve existing verification methods and tools.
- Support engineering process discipline and continuous improvement
- Contribute to strong engineering practices, including code reviews, documentation, coding standards, and disciplined design practices, while aligning with established team processes.
- Provide input on process improvements based on development experience
- Support technical planning and execution
- Support planning, work estimates, and technical risk identification activities.
- Proactively communicate and coordinate technical activities with cross-functional teams to support successful project delivery.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related fields;
- Experience (i.e. years of work experience related to the job)
- 10+ years of relevant experience
Knowledge / Technical Requirements
- Expert level domain knowledge in the following areas is required:
- Bluetooth Core Specification, including GAP, GATT, L2CAP, ATT, SMP, and Link Layer protocols.
- Wired communication interfaces and related protocols
- Embedded firmware development
- Firmware test methodologies, strategies, and tools
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C and assembly
- Proficiency in driving root cause analysis of complex wireless issues using over-the-air sniffing, logs, and protocol trace analysis.
- Strong experience with RTOS environments and low-level hardware/software integration
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python
- Working knowledge of analog and digital circuitry
- Knowledge of the architecture and programming of devices such as DSPs and microcontrollers
