Role: AI/ML Engineer
Engagement Type : Freelance / Contract
Domain :Healthcare — Medical Imaging (CT, X-Ray, DICOM/PACS)
Location: Remote
Experience Required: 5+ Years (Healthcare AI mandatory)
We are looking for a seasoned AI/ML Engineer with deep expertise in healthcare technology, specifically in medical imaging AI. You will work on building and integrating AI-powered solutions that help clinicians and researchers gain faster, more accurate insights from CT scans, X-rays, and other diagnostic imaging data. This is a high-impact freelance engagement with the opportunity to directly influence patient outcomes through technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop AI/ML models for analysing CT scans, X-rays, and ophthalmic imaging data
- Build and maintain DICOM adapter services to integrate with PACS systems (e.g., HeyEx1, HeyEx2, Zeiss Forum)
- Enable ingestion and normalisation of medical imaging data for AI and analytics pipelines
- Deliver FHIR-based integrations with EHRs, clinical systems, and image management platforms
- Integrate AI models into clinical workflows to surface real-time insights for clinicians and researchers
- Contribute to clinical trial acceleration tools using multimodal data (EHR, imaging, AI outputs)
- Build and maintain core platform services and internal frameworks across product teams
- Embed AI-powered decision-support and trial enrichment tools directly into researcher and clinician workflows
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in healthcare AI — medical imaging (CT, X-ray, MRI, DICOM) is mandatory
- Proficiency in ML frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of DICOM standards and PACS integration
- Experience with FHIR-based data exchange and EHR system integrations
- Hands-on experience with ophthalmic or radiology imaging AI pipelines
- Solid understanding of HL7, clinical data interoperability, and healthcare data privacy (HIPAA/GDPR)
- Experience delivering production-grade AI services in clinical environments
Good to Have
- Exposure to multimodal AI pipelines combining imaging + structured EHR data
- Familiarity with clinical trial data management systems
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) for healthcare workloads
- Knowledge of ophthalmic imaging devices and datasets
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate has worked at the intersection of clinical research and engineering — someone who understands both the technical complexities of medical imaging pipelines and the sensitivity required in healthcare environments. You are comfortable working independently, delivering high-quality outputs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams including clinicians, product managers, and data scientists.
