Aether Prosthetics is a medical robotics company focused on biosignal processing and bionic limbs for upper limb amputees. We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer to join our team in the development of advanced prosthetic and robotic systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design and working knowledge of firmware/electronics to integrate mechanical parts with motors, sensors, and connectivity protocols. This role will focus on designing upper limb prosthetics while ensuring smooth integration with the control system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechanical parts (e.g., prosthetic components, housings, enclosures) using CAD software, applying advanced surface modeling techniques to create ergonomic, organic shapes that comfortably fit users.
- Apply mechatronics principles for motion systems, motor control, and system reliability.
- Collaborate with electronics and firmware engineers to integrate motors, sensors, and control boards.
- Incorporate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to ensure prototypes can be scaled for production.
- Assist in firmware testing and debugging for motor control, sensor calibration, and connectivity (UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi).
- Conduct simulations, tolerance analysis, and stress testing for designed parts.
- Prepare technical documentation, engineering drawings, and specifications for prototyping and manufacturing.
- Support prototyping, testing, and validation of electromechanical systems.
Qualifications and Requirements :
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent), with demonstrably strong skills in surface modeling for complex geometries.
- Understanding of motors (DC, gear, servo), sensors, actuators, and control systems.
- Knowledge of firmware basics and communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi).
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping (3D printing, CNC machining, etc.).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Experience:
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical or mechatronics design, preferably in medical devices, robotics, or consumer hardware.
- Portfolio demonstrating experience with complex electromechanical assemblies and advanced surface modeling.
