Main Duties & Responsibilities
Position Summary
The US Sales & Use Tax Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate calculation, reporting, and remittance of sales and use taxes across all applicable jurisdictions. This role manages compliance and internal controls related to indirect tax. The accountant partners closely with Finance, Procurement, Operations, and external tax authorities to minimize risk, maintain compliance, and optimize tax processes.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple states and local jurisdictions.

Ensure timely remittance of tax payments and maintain compliance with filing deadlines.

Reconcile tax accounts and resolve discrepancies between ERP data, tax returns, and general ledger balances.

Maintain exemption certificates and ensure proper documentation for tax‑exempt sales.

Identify overpayments or underpayments and drive corrective actions.

Research state and local tax laws, rate changes, and regulatory updates.

Provide guidance to internal teams on taxability of products, services, and capital purchases.

Respond to audit inquiries and implement corrective actions based on audit outcomes.

Maintain and improve tax processes, controls, and documentation.

Support implementation and maintenance of tax automation tools (e.g., Avalara, Vertex).

Work with IT and Finance to ensure ERP tax settings are accurate and up to date.
Qualifications
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

2+ years of experience in sales and use tax, indirect tax, or general accounting.

Strong understanding of multi‑state sales and use tax rules.

Familiarity with exemption certificate management.

Experience with ERP systems (Infor LN, Syteline, etc.)

Experience with tax automation software (Avalara, Vertex, etc)

Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze large data sets.
