An Operations Manager in a construction company is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the company’s day-to-day construction operations across multiple projects. The role focuses on ensuring projects have the required manpower, materials, machinery, subcontractors, finances, and management support to achieve time, cost, quality, safety, and productivity targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Operations & Execution – Oversee ongoing construction projects, review work progress, identify delays or operational problems, and coordinate corrective actions with Project Managers and Site Engineers.
- Planning & Scheduling – Review project schedules, monthly/weekly targets, resource requirements, and construction priorities to ensure timely completion.
- Manpower Management – Coordinate deployment of engineers, supervisors, operators, skilled workers, and labour across different project sites based on workload and priorities.
- Material & Procurement Coordination – Monitor requirements for cement, steel, aggregates, bitumen, construction chemicals, and other materials; coordinate with procurement and suppliers for timely delivery.
- Machinery & Equipment Management – Plan allocation and utilization of excavators, JCBs, rollers, dumpers, batching plants, vehicles, and other equipment while monitoring breakdowns, maintenance, fuel consumption, and productivity.
- Cost & Budget Control – Monitor project expenditure against budgets, identify cost overruns, control wastage, and coordinate with accounts and project teams to improve project profitability. Cost and operational-risk oversight are common elements of the role.
- Subcontractor & Vendor Management – Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, transporters, equipment owners, and service providers; monitor their performance and resolve operational issues.
- Quality & Safety Monitoring – Ensure construction activities follow approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements, safety procedures, and applicable contractual/regulatory requirements.
- Progress Monitoring & Reporting – Review daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports, physical versus financial progress, resource utilization, pending activities, and project performance.
- Coordination Between Office & Sites – Act as a key communication link between company management, Project Managers, Site Engineers, Accounts, Purchase, HR, and other departments.
- Client & Department Coordination – Coordinate with clients, consultants, engineers, government departments, and other stakeholders regarding progress, approvals, inspections, and operational requirements.
- Billing & Cash-Flow Coordination – Follow up on measurements, running account bills, subcontractor bills, client payments, and project cash requirements in coordination with the billing and accounts teams.
- Problem Solving – Address shortages of manpower/materials, equipment breakdowns, site constraints, subcontractor issues, approval delays, and other problems affecting project execution.
- Performance Management – Establish operational targets and monitor site productivity, equipment utilization, material consumption, project costs, and team performance.
- Management Reporting – Provide senior management with regular reports on project status, financial performance, major risks, resource requirements, delays, and decisions requiring management approval.
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹70,000.00 per month
