Structural Engineer – Experimental Architecture & Site Execution
Location: Canacona, South Goa
Role Type: Full-Time | Site-Heavy | Founder’s Ecosystem
Projects: Hospitality, Restaurants, Farms, Experimental Structures, Sustainable Architecture & Special Projects
The Role
We are looking for an ambitious Structural Engineer who wants to build extraordinary things, not spend their career sitting behind a desk producing repetitive drawings.
You will work across a diverse ecosystem of projects involving hospitality, architecture, landscape, farms, experimental structures and sustainable construction.
This is an execution-heavy role.
You will be expected to understand a design concept, develop the structural solution, prepare drawings, coordinate vendors and fabricators, supervise execution on site and take ownership until the structure is completed.
We regularly explore unconventional ideas, materials and construction methods. You should be excited by questions such as:
- Can this structure be built using bamboo?
- Can FRP replace steel in a coastal environment?
- Can we design modular structures that can be dismantled?
- Can we build large-span structures with minimum concrete?
- Can engineered timber, recycled materials or composites solve this problem better?
- How do we build something that has never been built this way before?
The right person will respond to every unusual idea with
“Let me figure out how it can be done safely.”
What You Will DoStructural Design & Engineering
- Develop structural systems for buildings, decks, restaurants, hospitality projects and unconventional structures.
- Perform structural calculations and load analysis.
- Design foundations, columns, beams, trusses, frames, decks and other structural components.
- Prepare structural drawings, fabrication drawings and execution details.
- Coordinate structural design with architectural concepts.
- Develop practical engineering solutions for challenging terrain, coastal environments and unusual project conditions.
- Optimise structures for cost, durability, constructability and aesthetics.
Drawings & Digital Modelling
You should be comfortable working with atleast one or more engineering/design software such as:
- AutoCAD
- STAAD.Pro / ETABS / SAP2000 or equivalent structural software
- Revit or similar BIM software
- SketchUp / Rhino / other 3D modelling or visualisation software
Being able to quickly create 3D structural models and communicate ideas visually will be highly valued.
You will spend significant time at project sites across Canacona and South Goa.
You will:
- Translate drawings into actual construction.
- Supervise structural execution.
- Inspect reinforcement, foundations, fabrication and erection.
- Resolve engineering problems directly on site.
- Coordinate contractors, fabricators, welders, carpenters and specialised vendors.
- Check workmanship and construction quality.
- Ensure execution matches engineering intent.
- Make quick but technically sound decisions when site realities differ from drawings.
- Take ownership of structural work from concept to completion.
When something goes wrong on site, you should be the person people call to solve it, not simply report the problem.
Vendor & Fabricator Management
You will work directly with:
- Steel fabricators
- Materials manufacturers
- Bamboo specialists
- Timber suppliers
- Concrete contractors
- Civil contractors
- Welding teams
- Specialist manufacturers
- Material suppliers
- Installation teams
You should be comfortable negotiating, coordinating, inspecting fabrication and ensuring vendors deliver what was designed.
Sustainable & Experimental Engineering
A major part of this role will involve researching and experimenting with materials and construction technologies.
Areas we are interested in include:
- Bamboo structures
- Engineered timber
- FRP / GFRP structural systems
- Composite structures
- Modular construction
- Prefabricated construction
- Recycled materials
- Low-concrete structural systems
- Reversible / dismantlable structures
- Coastal corrosion-resistant construction
- Alternative foundations
- Lightweight structures
- Bio-based building materials
You do not need to already be an expert in all of these.
But you must have the curiosity and engineering ability to research, test and develop solutions.
Leadership Opportunity
We are not hiring only for the current requirement.
We are looking for someone who has the ambition and capability to eventually lead our Design & Execution Vertical.
Over time, the right person should be able to:
- Build and lead an internal design and engineering team.
- Create systems for drawings, approvals, execution and site quality.
- Lead structural and execution planning across multiple projects.
- Coordinate architects, engineers, vendors and contractors.
- Develop new construction methodologies.
- Standardise successful experimental systems so they can be replicated across future projects.
- Take end-to-end ownership of design-to-execution delivery.
- Become a key technical leader within the wider ecosystem.
You should want more than a job title.
You should want to eventually build and lead a vertical.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
An Engineer
Strong fundamentals. Understands loads, structures, materials and safety.
A Builder
Enjoys seeing things physically constructed.
A Problem Solver
Doesn't freeze when drawings and site conditions don't match.
An Experimenter
Curious about materials and new methods of construction.
A Site Person
Comfortable with dust, contractors, fabrication yards and construction sites.
An Owner
Takes responsibility for outcomes instead of waiting for instructions.
A Communicator
Can explain engineering decisions to architects, founders, vendors and workers.
A Researcher
Can independently study a new material or structural system and determine whether it can practically work.
A Future Leader
Wants to build a team, create systems and eventually take responsibility for an entire design and execution function.
Location & Mobility
This role requires you to be based in Canacona, South Goa or be willing to relocate here.
Our projects are spread across different locations in and around Canacona and South Goa, and regular site movement is a fundamental part of the role.
You must:
- Be willing to relocate to Canacona, South Goa.
- Be comfortable working primarily from project sites rather than a conventional office.
- Have your own two-wheeler or four-wheeler for regular travel between projectvendors, fabrication units and the office.
- Have a working laptopsites,
- Be comfortable travelling frequently during the working day depending on project requirements.
If you are looking for a role that can be performed primarily remotely or from a desk, this will not be the right fit.
What This Role Is NOT
This is not the right role for someone looking for:
- A predictable desk job
- Only calculation work
- Only drafting work
- Fixed repetitive projects
- Large corporate engineering processes
- Someone else to handle site problems
- Someone else to manage vendors
- Extremely defined job boundaries
- A role where responsibility ends once drawings are issued
Projects will change.
Problems will change.
Your responsibilities will evolve depending on what we are building.
Qualifications
Ideally:
- B.E. / B.Tech in Civil or Structural Engineering
- M.Tech / M.E. in Structural Engineering is an advantage
- 2–8 years of practical experience preferred
However, capability matters more than years of experience.
An exceptional young engineer with strong fundamentals, unusual curiosity and genuine site experience may be preferred over someone with ten years of conventional consulting experience.
What Will Make You Stand Out
You will immediately stand out if you have personally:
- Designed and executed a structure on site.
- Worked with fabricators.
- Designed steel structures.
- Worked with timber, bamboo, composites or FRP.
- Built something unconventional.
- Managed contractors independently.
- Developed fabrication/shop drawings.
- Worked on difficult terrain.
- Solved structural problems during construction.
- Created structural models in 3D.
- Taken a project from concept to physical completion.
- Led junior engineers, draftsmen, contractors or execution teams.
Show us what you have built, not just where you have worked.
The Opportunity
This role is for someone who wants their career to become a body of work.
You may work on a cliff-side restaurant one month, a sustainable farm structure the next, an experimental hospitality project after that, followed by a modular structure using a completely new material.
You will work closely with the Founder
There will be difficult problems.
There will be ideas without existing precedents.
There will be experiments that need engineering discipline before they become reality.
If your ambition is simply to become another structural consultant, this role may not be for you.
If your ambition is to become an exceptional engineer-builder capable of designing, executing and eventually leading teams that build structures most engineers would hesitate to attempt, we would like to meet you.
