Role Overview
Gradiant is seeking a Business Development professional to drive early-stage engagement in the data centre sector across India, with a primary focus on originating opportunities and building strategic relationships.This role is centred on front-end business creation—identifying where projects will emerge, establishing connections with key decision-makers, and positioning Gradiant early in the project lifecycle.
Reponsibilities
Market & Account Development
Develop Gradiant's data centre growth plan for Pan-India
Build a qualified pipeline across greenfield campuses, brownfield expansions, and retrofit opportunities.
Identify projects early during land, utility, master-planning, and design stages to influence water strategy.
Create account plans for hyperscalers, colocation operators, developers, EPCs, and consultants.
Customer Engagement & Influence
Build relationships with development, infrastructure, sustainability, operations, procurement, and CXO stakeholders.
Engage consultants and PMCs to position Gradiant in basis-of-design discussions and technical specifications.
Lead customer workshops focused on water availability, compliance, discharge limits, ESG targets, WUE, and resiliency.
Solution & Value Selling
Translate technical solutions into business outcomes: water security, cost reduction, compliance, uptime protection, and ESG impact.
Position Gradiant offerings including WTP, wastewater recycling, reuse, RO/UF, ZLD, cooling-water optimization, O&M, and Water-as-a-Service.
Develop customer-specific value propositions and business cases with engineering, technology, and commercial teams.
Opportunity Pursuit & Closure
Own opportunity qualification, stakeholder mapping, pursuit strategy, proposal coordination, and competitive positioning.
Drive bid/no-bid reviews, commercial strategy, pricing inputs, risk reviews, negotiations, and contract closure.
Maintain accurate CRM updates, forecasts, order-booking targets, and management reporting.
Industry Presence & Strategic Growth
Represent Gradiant at data centre, sustainability, and infrastructure forums.
Track market trends, customer capex plans, water regulations, cooling strategies, and sustainability commitments.
Identify recurring revenue opportunities through O&M contracts, performance services, and Water-as-a-Service models.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or related discipline.
10-15 years in business development, consultative sales, key account management, or project sales.
At least 5 years experience selling water, water chemicals, wastewater, utility, cooling, environmental, industrial process, or sustainability solutions.
Proven record of originating and closing large B2B capital projects, preferably USD 1M+ or equivalent.
Experience with long-cycle, multi-stakeholder sales involving technical, commercial, procurement, and executive decision makers.
Data centres, industrial water, semiconductor, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, energy, utilities, or mission-critical infrastructure.
Established network with hyperscalers, colocation providers, data centre developers, PMCs, MEP consultants, and EPC contractors.
Working knowledge of data centre development lifecycle, cooling-water needs, water sourcing constraints, wastewater discharge, ESG, and WUE drivers.
Ability to discuss water treatment, recycling/reuse, RO/UF, ZLD, cooling-water optimization, and service-based commercial models with credibility.
Strong commercial acumen in business case creation, ROI discussion, bid management, negotiation, contract models, and sales forecasting.
A commercially strong, technically credible sales professional who can enter early, shape the water strategy, influence decision makers, and position Gradiant as the preferred partner for sustainable data centre water infrastructure.
Hunter mindset with consultative selling discipline and executive presence.
Strong relationship-building, negotiation, influencing, presentation, and communication skills.
Ability to work across global, regional, and local teams while coordinating sales, engineering, technology, execution, and finance stakeholders.
