The Construction Manager – Mechanical is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all on-site mechanical construction activities for MEP projects. The role ensures the successful execution of HVAC, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, fuel gas, and associated mechanical systems in accordance with contract specifications, approved drawings, project schedules, quality standards, and health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements. The Construction Manager leads site teams, coordinates with other trades, and oversees testing, commissioning, and project handover.
Key ResponsibilitiesConstruction Management
- Plan, organize, and manage all mechanical construction activities from mobilization through project completion.
- Ensure mechanical works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and project schedules.
- Coordinate mechanical activities with electrical, ELV, civil, architectural, and structural teams to avoid clashes and ensure smooth project execution.
- Monitor construction progress and implement recovery plans where required to maintain project milestones.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure compliance with contractual obligations, quality standards, and project requirements.
Site Supervision
- Lead and manage Project Engineers, Site Engineers, Supervisors, Foremen, and skilled trades personnel.
- Allocate manpower, equipment, and materials to optimize productivity and meet construction targets.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure workmanship complies with project specifications and industry standards.
- Supervise installation of HVAC systems, chilled water piping, ventilation systems, plumbing, drainage, firefighting systems, LPG/fuel gas systems, and other mechanical services.
Technical Coordination
- Review IFC drawings, shop drawings, coordinated services drawings, material submittals, and method statements.
- Coordinate with consultants, clients, architects, and other disciplines to resolve technical and construction issues.
- Work closely with procurement and planning teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
- Participate in constructability reviews and value engineering initiatives to improve project efficiency.
Quality Assurance & Commissioning
- Ensure all mechanical installations comply with contract specifications, approved submittals, quality standards, and applicable codes.
- Coordinate inspections with consultants and relevant authorities.
- Oversee testing, adjusting, balancing (TAB), pre-commissioning, commissioning, and final handover of mechanical systems.
- Ensure completion of snag lists, as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, and close-out documentation.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Implement and enforce company HSE policies and project safety procedures.
- Conduct routine safety inspections and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with permit-to-work systems and safe construction practices.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and investigate incidents, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
Planning & Reporting
- Monitor site progress against approved construction schedules and identify potential delays.
- Coordinate with the Planning Engineer to prepare recovery plans when required.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly construction progress reports.
- Attend project coordination and progress meetings, providing updates on mechanical works.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional certification in Construction Management or PMP is an advantage.
Experience
- 10–15 years of experience in Mechanical MEP construction.
- Minimum 5 years in a Construction Manager or Senior Site Management role.
- Proven experience delivering commercial, residential, healthcare, hospitality, industrial, data center, airport, or infrastructure MEP projects.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water systems, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, fuel gas/LPG systems, and associated mechanical services.
- Experience in testing, adjusting, balancing (TAB), commissioning, and authority approvals.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, MS Project, and Primavera P6.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IPC, local building regulations, and authority requirements.
