A Transportation Incharge at a Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant oversees the entire logistics operation. They manage transit mixer (TM) fleets and pump operators to ensure the timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery of concrete from the plant to various construction sites while adhering to strict setting times.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Dispatch Management
· TM Scheduling & Routing: Coordinate daily TM allocation based on plant production capacity, pour rates, and site distances to prevent bottlenecks or concrete setting.
· Dispatch Control: Track TM trucks from loading to arrival at the construction site to ensure continuous supply.
· Site Coordination: Liaise directly with site engineers and project managers to manage delivery flow and resolve unloading delays.
Maintenance & Servicing
· Preventive Maintenance: Schedule and track routine servicing, oil changes, and parts replacements for transit mixers and concrete pumps to minimize breakdowns.
· TM Drum Cleaning: Ensure TM drums are washed out properly after every delivery to prevent concrete hardening inside the barrel.
· Breakdown Handling: Coordinate rapid-response mechanics or towing for trucks that suffer mechanical failures in transit.
Compliance & Safety
· Legal Requirements: Ensure all vehicles have valid fitness certificates, pollution under control (PUC) certificates, road permits, and comprehensive insurance.
· Site Safety: Enforce mandatory site safety rules (e.g., speed limits, use of PPE) for drivers operating in high-traffic construction zones.
· Driver Licensing: Ensure drivers possess heavy vehicle licenses and specialized training for handling concrete mixer trucks.
Cost & Fuel Control
· Fuel Monitoring: Track daily fuel consumption and mileage against industry benchmarks.
· Budget Administration: Oversee the transportation budget, tracking expenses for tolls, driver overtime, and spare parts.
Team Leadership
· Driver Rostering: Manage driver schedules, shift rotations, and overtime to ensure optimal coverage during peak hours and night pours.
· Training: Conduct regular briefings on safe driving practices and concrete handling procedures.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
· Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering or Logistics/Supply Chain Management.
· Experience: 3 to 5 years of relevant fleet management experience, preferably in the construction or RMC industry.
· Technical Knowledge: Understanding of TM capacities (e.g., 6 m³, 8 m³, 10 m³), gross vehicle weight, and concrete properties.
· Soft Skills: Strong crisis management, problem-solving, and negotiation abilities.
Experience: Min. 8 - 10 Years’ experience in billing, planning, and project management (civil construction)
Salary: 50,000 p.m. to 70,000 p.m.
