CMD Precision Products Pvt. Ltd. is looking for an experienced Manager – Press Tool Design to lead end-to-end design and development of press tools for sheet metal components. The role requires strong technical expertise along with strong costing and commercial acumen in feasibility analysis, tool cost estimation, and customer coordination to deliver cost-effective and manufacturable tooling solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Tool Design & Development
- Lead design and development of press tools ensuring feasibility, manufacturability, and cost optimization.
- Develop die layouts for stage, progressive, and multi-stage tools.
- Review and approve 2D/3D designs, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
- Expertise in Blanking, Piercing, Forming, Bending, Restriking, and Progressive tools.
Technical Validation
- Ensure adherence to GD&T standards and precision requirements.
- Guide material selection, design validation, and tool proving.
- Support tool trials, try-outs, and debugging with production and tool room teams.
Commercial, Feasibility & Costing
- Conduct feasibility studies for RFQs and customer drawings.
- Prepare detailed tool cost estimates based on design complexity, material, machining processes, and standard components.
- Estimate tooling cost considering strip layout, number of stations, tool life, and production volume.
- Evaluate cost drivers and identify opportunities for cost reduction and optimization.
- Provide inputs for process planning, cycle time, and tooling cost optimization.
- Support commercial tool room activities aligned with cost and delivery targets.
RFQ & Quotation Support
- Analyze RFQs and prepare technical inputs for quotation.
- Collaborate with commercial team for accurate costing, quotation preparation, and profitability analysis.
- Assess risks in costing related to design complexity, material, and manufacturing challenges.Customer Coordination· Participate in technical discussions and design reviews with customers.
- Manage clarifications, change requests, and follow-ups for approvals and milestones.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with production, quality, and tool room teams to ensure smooth execution.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the design team.
- Allocate tasks and monitor performance.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive improvements in design processes, standardization, and CAD data management.
- Focus on cost reduction and performance enhancement.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in Press Tool Design & Development
- Experience in progressive, stage, and multi-stage dies
- Proficiency in CAD tools (Cimatron / SolidWorks / AutoCAD)
- Strong knowledge of tool costing, feasibility analysis, and quotation preparation
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and tool validation
- Strong customer handling and communication skills
- Leadership and team management capability
