Mechanical Design Engineer - R&D (Automotive Switches & Sensors) focuses on designing robust, reliable components for high-volume automotive production.
Job summary
Design and develop mechanical systems for automotive switches, pressure sensors, thermal actuators, and related assemblies using CAD tools. Collaborate with electrical teams to ensure manufacturability, durability under vibration/thermal stress, and compliance with automotive standards like IATF 16949.
Key responsibilities
- Create 3D CAD models (SolidWorks/CATIA) and 2D drawings for switches, diaphragms, housings, and sensor mounts.
- Perform FEA, tolerance stack-up, and GD&T analysis for automotive environments (vibration, temp cycling).
- Prototype, test, and validate designs for pressure sealing, actuation force, and lifecycle (e.g., 10M cycles).
- Support DFM/DFA with manufacturing for crimping, molding, and assembly processes.
Required skills
- Proficiency in SolidWorks/CATIA, FEA (ANSYS), and prototyping.
- Knowledge of automotive materials (rubber diaphragms, plastics, metals) and standards (IP67 sealing, ISO 16750).
- 2-5 years experience in automotive R&D, preferably switches/sensors.
Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech Mechanical Engineering.
- Familiarity with wiring harness integration and sensor mounting.
